my father is looking for a movie title from estimated 1960, might be b/w. He described the story as follows:

a grandfather and his grandson are doing all sorts of funny things with an old biplane. then they have to replace the engine with one from an old car. when the officials want to forbid that they find out that the grandfather has one of the first flying licenses issued.

not much, but maybe someone knows this one?

"Skippy" Original was 1931. Perhaps there was a remake later.

Basically about "A man uses an old biplane in a bid for his grandson's affection. Ike Eisenmann plays the boy. He goes to a ritzy private school and shows up on his grandfather's farm in his uniform, a blazer worn with long pants. He has trouble adjusting to the rustic conditions on the farm."

Did it involve something about the grandson finding the biplane in the grandfather's barn and them restoring the plane together, but they couldn't find an air-cooled engine so they "borrowed" one out of the son's/father's Volkswagen Beetle?

I can't remember if that was a full movie or just a "short", like a tv-show or something. I want to say it was Disney, but if it was it'd be out on video by now and heavily advertised.

More likely it was some other studio.

OMG, Ike Eisenmann. Does that bring back memories of 1970's TV movies, or what? Do you also remember Lance Kerwin and Kim Darby?

It was a two part Disney movie special aired in 1975. The title is "The Sky's the Limit". Cast included Pat O'Brien and Huntz Hall.

A young boy that has to spend the summer at his grandfathers fathers farm. The boy isn't very happy about that until he discovers that his grandfather has an old airplane hanging in the barn. The two, together with the help of a few friends from his grandfather, restore the plane back to flying condition. During the maiden flight, the grandfather and the boy are being chased by the local sheriff, the boy's father and others. They can end their flight and it's discovered that the grandfathers pilots licence was signed by one of the Wright brothers.

Hot damn. Huntz Hall? I gotta get see one.
