Can't network Aces High anymore...
« on: July 22, 2003, 03:18:55 PM »
I can play Starwars, Tiberum Sun, Medal of Honor... but I can't play AH over my two systems any more. Started after I put in a new hard drive a couple of months ago.

I will put up the host on my system, and my kids system will see it about 1/2 the time. When my kids system tries to join my system starts to freeze. Same with my kids system. The couple of times my kids system makes it in the game it gets dropped within a minute.

Both have Win XP Pro. I even have it set up so my kids system can get on the Internet via mine and that works fine. Can't figure it out since I am able to play any other game between the two systems.

Ideas?

Are they sharing IP addresses or do you have both systems connected through a router?

Hi Ack Ack,

Forgive my ignorance...

I have a little 5 port Link Sys hub.

NETGEAR FA311 Fast Ethernet Adapter is listed in the network settings.  My box under TCP/IP properties is listed at 192.168.0.1

My kids system is Winbond W89C940-Based Ethernet Adapter (Generic #2) and under TCP/IP properties it is set to assign the IP address.

Hope that answers your question. :)

Use the following Network settings... depending on OS version go to the place where you can mess with these settings.

For System 1) IP address: 192.168.0.1 SUBNET Mask 255.255.255.0

For System 2) IP address: 192.168.0.2 SUBNET Mask 255.255.255.0

Leave the gateway information on both computers EMPTY or

If system 1 has an entry here use the same entry on system 2.

The above will work if the network stacks <--- tech talk, on both computers are operating correctly. From your first description it sounds like they are.

Have fun gaming!

I had them setup for Internet Connection Sharing so my kids computer can get online via mine. Their system had it set to obtain the ip address automaticly.

I changed it to what you suggested scJazz, but still no joy. When we try to connect Aces High via Lan it still starts to lock up. My system does the stutter. Everything locks up for about 3 seconds then is free for about 2 seconds. My kids system just locks up and I have to hard boot. Yet I can play any of the above games no problem at all via LAN including BF1942. :(

Ideas anyone?

Internet connection sharing explains it all.

ICS is a nasty tempermental on again off again piece of buggy software.

Yes ICS turned it self off a few months back for no reason, but I was able to turn it back on without much trouble. ICS is working fine between my systems. The ICS system is getting online via my system without any problems.
