What I drink has a lot to do with the severity of my hangovers.
Whisky hangovers are the worst imho, because whisky contains fusil oil...a poison inherent to all whisky, and cannot be distilled out completely. Double stilled whiskeys like JD and George Dickle probably get most of it out. Not blends, but pure corn squeezin's, i.e. Tennessee Whisky.
Red wine Burgundy, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, don't deliver too bad a hangover, and are probably good for you if you are staying home.
I've found sleep to be the only way to get rid of a hangover completely. Lots of water, orange juice, tomato juice according to preference. Sometimes chocolate milk is pretty good.
Hair of the dog only gets me started again.
It's a good idea to eat a nice meal beforehand.
