Ya, thats a good idea, but...

A while back, i was watching Discovery Wings.
They were talking about the p47. This guy said he got hit by a 20mm round when attacking a train station or something. The round went through his propeller blade and into one of his pistons. He said he was able to get back home and land the plane safely before the engine died.

That's something that i would like to see in AH2. not just radiator damage and oil leaks.

Now dont get me wrong im not trying to advertise for anyone but have you seen 'IL2 forgotten Battles' damage model?

It has one of the best 'structural failure' models ive ever seen. I was atacking a Pe-8 (russian 4 engined bomber) and i made a high sweeping diving pass using 4x20mm in the 190a8, I hit the engines on its left wing and was lucky enough to hit the engine again and again. Suddenly the WHOLE ENGINE ripped free of the wing! It just fell away tearing bits off as it went!
I actually stopped what i was doing to grab the mouse so i could manually track the falling engine and look at the fabulous looks of it all.

BANG CRACK SMASH!!! rear gunners hole my engine!... SPLAT!!

Oil all over my screen leaving me with a small space to see forward at the top of the canopy. I actually SMILE with glee, Im suddenly faced with a long flight back to my lines with my engine producing hardly any power on full throttle, I frantically trim and try to see where the hell Im facing! IT was great!! its different every time you get hit. Sometimes you can hear the engine grinding up with no oil and it seizes sometimes almost immediately or it lasts ages in this barely running condition. Rather than feeling frustrated as i often do when im hit in the engine in AH doing the same thing! In AH I hear bang see smoke and think 'Damn i got only so many seconds before the engine conks!' , I know what to expect from it, just like wounding. They are always so similar that it feels false. You never really feel theres a big piston engine chugging away ahead of you, you take it as a big area that can be hit.
Somehow IL2 FB have managed to give their game a rather realistic damgeable engine that, depending on where you get hit on that engine, you really 'FEEL' you can tell where you have been hit. The aircraft suddenly behaves as though its been hit in a certain place . No simple smoke trail only like in AH, colour coded so we can see if its oil or coolant or fuel but a real mixture of loss of effectiveness of certain control to a loss of full power, visual and vibrational clues that make it seem different every time you blow the engine or get shot and somehow it works. Its really VERY good and i Hope its ok to say that here without sounding like im pushing it over AH2. Its not that at all because you know what i thought? not 'wow this is the game for me, forget AH' BUT 'Wow if AH had this FEEL and look with its superb servers...'

see that says a lot doesnt it :D. I would like to see a similar attention to detail of all the little things like oil splats and loss of control due to wires damage or an engine that run hot too long starts to pop and splutter before it simply blows. You hear the scraping and feel that engine struggle with force feedback vibration. makes me smile thinking about it it was so good.If i could get this stuff in the new AH2 then Id have my perfect game ;)

IL2FB online is ok but nothing as good as AH thats for sure so it has its faults. The lack of a 6oc veiw can be irritating until you realise you can set your veiw to a sort of wide angle shot and this almost allows you to see dead 6 (on 190's and ohers with the bubble canopies) it needs some fiddleing but its 'ok'. In this area i feel AH is superior for its adaptable and changable veiw system. In gunnery and damage I feel IL2FB is the better and 'looks' wise it also wins hands down. (Those night time missions with your bombs lighting up your planes underside and huge searchlights that actually lock onto you and blind your eyes! truelly impressive :)). For online AH has no worries as AH wins this category by a long margin.

I say its worth having both :) Remember I had Il2 and i never really 'got into it' or enthused about it on here. But IL2FB with my first flight in a hurriIIc (russian colours) I was hooked by its lavish looks and great detail and the feel of it. The hurricane is very similar to AH's Hurricane but it has all that added gloss as well as 'something' that just 'feels' fantastic when you fly it.
It (IL2 FB) seems much better than IL2 to me. is it the same? maybe it is just because I have this faster PC and it runs at the speed its supossed to? :p

One thing that really, really impressed me in FB is this:

I was flying a Bf109G-14, and my engine was hit. Since there isn't any "CTRL+D" in FB(and I had my messages turned off), I knew something was wrong, but couldn't figure out what.

At first, it first seemed like a plain oil leak.. and then, suddenly, it starts grinding and screeching.. and to my surprise, yes, the engine suddenly burst up in flames! Ho geez, was I panicked...

But even more surprising is this...

Frantically searching for my options, somehow, I decided to cut off mixture and turn off the engine. And then, holy cow.. the engine went off, and the flames sputtered down, and eventually went out.! The black fumes I was dragging, settled down, and changed to a bit lighter, dark grey. I have no idea what the heck happened, but I do know that some internal failure started "flaming" the engine, but stopped once engines were cut, and mixture was off.

Man, that was some impressive shi*!
