I dont read this topic much but was wondering if AHII will start with an early war plane set then say like every quarter would be like a new year and the planset would change accordingly.. If not wouldnt that be a good idea?

I'm in favour of a rolling planeset. It has been done before in Warbirds. Never perfect, it's the closest thing to historical accuracy I've seen to represent the entry in service of different models and versions.

Unfortunately a rolling plane set will deprive some of being able to fly the planes they enjoy flying until their available. All you are doing is restricting what others can fly and that's never a good thing, especially with a plane set that isn't fully fleshed out.

And in case sparow didn't know or hasn't figured out yet, AH is just a combat flight simulation using WW2 aircraft and is in no way a historical representation of the air battles during WW2. That's why we have three countries named after chess pieces and Spitfires fight against Spitfires.

AH2: TOD, it seems, have grown into a general area where we discuss the many expectations concerning AH2 as a whole. So your sarcasm is frankly, uncalled for, Arlo. Even a six year old kid would take a quick peek, see the context of certain forums, and would immediately recognize what kind of discussions are aceeptable. (But then again, seeing your attitude in various posts scattered through various forums, I wouldn't actually expect to see something better of you)

Anyhow, RPS or no RPS, it's not going to effect people much. As I have stated, I strongly believe that the large majority of the people who play AH, do not have a certain affection towards any plane. Of course, there are a lot of people who love specific planes. The 56th loves the 47s, the 412th and the 13th specialize in 51s.. Akak, Fester, kappa et all are good in all planes, but are very specialized in 38s... But still, lots more people usually choose the plane that allows them to be most proficient, at least, to the levels they personally think appropriate.

So even in RPS sets, they'll probably choose either one of the fastest planes, or one of the best turners(as long as they ain't too slow). It'd just be another experience they can learn to adapt to.

However, admitably it will disturb people who are devoted to certain planes. I agree that RPS is not really appropriate for what people expect of the MA.

The new TOD will be the EXACT place for a rolling plane set. We will have missions and objectives and so we can have certain planes available!

The regualr vanilla MA can continue with its 6 plane set to keep the "I want to fly my favorite plane" people happy!

I think that AH now has a large enough base to support 2 arenas and one can have the rolling set

I agree: the choices for AH2:TOD would be:

1) Like MA: PLanes from all eras avaialble all the time. This would kill the immersion aspect of TOD.

2) Fixed Era: TOD remains fixed in one particular era with the planes that were avaialble then. More possible but could become old after a while.

3) Some kind of timeline with newer a/c, vehicles etc becomign availabe as time goes on. This would seem to be the best solution. As has already been stated TOD will be ETO at least at first. It could start late '42 (so the US planes would be available) and progress through to mid '45.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, ack-ack, but I really know that AH is just a simulation. A game if you like. I know that since Atari days. Never mixed reality with fantasy or history.
I just don't like Quake.

Actually we were having a very good discussion until you got in a huff and took your ball then went home.

And introducing a RPS in the upcoming Classic arena will do nothing to eliminate the 'Quake' like atmosphere some have complained about.

As others have noted, RPS does have a place in the ToD but not in the Classic arena.

No ... this is the AHII:TOD forum. By default, anything not TOD can be discussed quite well in the AH general forum ... though some have decided that they'd like to discuss it here instead just because the TOD forum has the term "Aces High II" in it and "Aces High general" doesn't.

Ok, Ack-Ack. Maybe I huffed. But I left the ball with you and the chaps to play with. Didn't liked your first remark, surely disliked the second. Do not wish to feed pointless discussions.
This is a thread about AH2:ToD, not Classic. So all ideas about what we would like to see in ToD are valid, all the ideas about Classic are not. Even if they are interesting.
And I may add that I have some doubts about the RPS genre built in a combat flight sim. I'm old. I've seen many good games go down for trying to be too light or too real...There's a thin line dividing what are our dreams and what is wise to model.
The problem here is that we will allways have to have the instant satisfaction arena for that quick fix. But we also would like to have a more "realistic" arena for more "serious" gaming. I must admit that I may be a more frequent flyer of Classic than ToD. I can only squezze 5 or 6 hours of flying per week in my RL schedule...And I would never get up at 04:00 to play a mission. Stripes don't pay the phone bill. RL work does.
And yes, Spitfires fought Spitfires once. Only, out of the time frame of AH. Unless someone decides to extend it to the Suez crisis...But that would be another thread...
