If you were talking to a Aces High newbie...
« on: October 24, 2000, 08:26:00 PM »
What would you tell him about the Flight models and/or their change?  With the $19.95 offer I got in my email, and with WB going flat rate, I am thinking of opening an Aces High account also.  Now, one problem I know I have when I fly all the flight sims I have, is that with the FMs those games have, and how they differ, it is always tough to come back to my original sim and fly as well.
I believe that WB and AH are the state of art in flight models for flight sims, and was wondering if the two sims FM's were much different or much same.  I know that AH has had a FM change, and it looks like WBIII will have some FM tweaking, but as of right now, how do they match up in similarity.  My question is not so much which one is better, cause that can turn into an ugly war of words, which I am not after.  And remember, I am a 109 pilot by trade.
Help me out if you can, thanks.

It's quite a bit different now.  The planes can all turn much better. (Perhaps more correct, they can turn the same, but for a longer period of time.) TnB planes aren't at as big of a disadvantage now as they were in the past.

I haven't flown WB for a LONG time, but based on what I've heard, the flight models are more similar now than they were in the past.

With most newbies I show them how to use the radio. Then they can talk to someone who really knows.

In WB I was getting to where I could fly the 190 and feel comfortable. The 109 was another story. In AH I fly the 109.

I'd tell them to fly a while in the free H2H servers and see for themselves...

Hedu I played WB 18 months ago and thought the FM there was real good, I quit after they put that sinking feeling in the planes thought it was neat at first, then that it was way over done. Aces High is an improved version of what WB was then. I know you have tried this game before and at the time you were here some of the planes FM were off but the game was very challenging. Now you will find that the FM is much better (still needing some tweaking) and in a whole the game is much more fun. The ability to adjust the pilots head is one of the best things here, WB you had a stiff neck and could not lean over as you can in real life. Still have the excorsist twist of the head but thats something I can live with. I found the skill level here to be the highest I have seen in online flight sims. Can go on for ever best thing to do is give it a try.

Erhm.... (hi Hedu)... You *do* know that it's pretty easy to discover for yourself? That is to say, you know ya can take the planes out for a spin offline, as well as fly in the arenas free for 2 weeks. Weren't you flying AH a bit a while back? Anyways, uhm... do it again. It's gonna give ya a way better idea of the FM (and changes) than any potential 'war of words'.

But if pressed, I'd be forced to tell you that I like it. I hope this helps

Hedu,

Come check out the flight models, they arn't THAT different that you won't be able to switch back & forth. I'm betting you'll stay however once you experience gunnery & damage the way it SHOULD be!

If in doubt, then by all means check out the 8 way free H2H. Always someone who has a FFA up looking for action.

I think that I'm beginning to see 1.04 fm as maybe not such a bad step after all.

Then again, I am not quite well in my head, and I am quite positive that the yellow sheep won't mind.

Well, they are easy, for sure, with or without trim and otto takeoff, but then, I nor hedu are "newbies" either.

Newbies:

Use radio one for ALL transmissions

Stay below 5k

Do not change your views with F10

Take off only from bases where the red bar is larger than the green one

Stay below 200 airspeed

Always carry max loadout, as many bombs and rockets as the plane will hold

Always announce, on ch.1, the airbase you are leaving from, plane type, heading and destination

Do Not download maps of airbase/arena, you'll figure them out

Do not make dives less then 90 degrees, full throttle

Make sure you do not have a joystick with rudder control or pedals, they just get in the way

Follow the above tips to the letter and you'll do just fine or at least as well as I do
