I've flown F6F here at AH very little. Now that I'm in one for the Operation Iceberg scenario I realize I oughta try to prepare a little :)

I'd appreciate input from experienced Hellkitty drivers regarding their experience in it vs Zekes, Nikis, and Ki-61s.

All the planes you just said are all slower than the F6F in level flight. Use your speed and dive to kill them. The Ki-61 is supprisingly fast in a dive. If you need help go to my training website at http://aceshightraining.freewebspace.com and Mathman's Hellcat Page - http://www.netaces.org/ahplanes/usa/mathmanf6f/mathman.html The Japanese planes can't really take a lot of damage, so shooting is a key to a short burst on the wing of a Jap plane also. The F6F can turn with the Ki-61 and have an initial turn speed over the Niki and A6M. Boom and Zoom is the tactic to use and strength in numbers is the way to go also.

What ever you do, keep your speed over 225 (250 best) and you will have nothing to fear when fighting rice burners.

F6F Undermodeled?
« Reply #7 on: July 28, 2003, 06:12:59 PM »
Hi all:
I use and like the F6f, but because I find it somewhat sluggish compared to my usual rides (190D, F4U), I use it mostly just to vulch in amphib attacks. Maybe it's a bit undermodeled?
Cheers,

If you're going to be flying the F6F, remember a few things:

(a) make sure you keep your bombs during a dogfight.  It makes it easier for me to shoot you down when you're 2,000 pounds over prime weight.

(b) stay on deck.  When I'm making my high-speed Ki-61 guns pass on you, I don't want you to try and dive away.

(c) don't go too fast.  Even if I can't knock you down with my cannons, I want to still have a good chance of getting you to stall so I can get a prox kill.

(d) if you get bounced, tell your Corsair friends where I am and that they should abide by rules a, b, and c above.  I want to have a good record for this scenario.

(e) when you start to hear my rounds landing on your fuselange, turn your head and go like this:

Fear the Ki-61!  Feeeaaar it!
