Field Capture
« on: September 17, 2000, 03:15:00 AM »
Field capture deep within enema territory is no longer possible.  All it takes is one alert goombah to see the sector counter tick and he'll jump in an Ostwind and wait for you.

I'm beginning to think that field capture in general requires accompaniment by Panzers (to kill enema Ostwinds) and Ostwinds (to protect Panzers from cannon planes.)

I guess that's cool, but no more deep strikes!

Is it just me or does there seem be an inordinate amount of 'furballing' and little 'field capture' activity lately?

Are we just playing with our new toys or has some subtle strategic lever been flicked?

HTC, take your pencil and draw a circle of radius 50 miles around the current A1.  Remove all fields in that circle, including A1.  That will do for a starter!

Yep, the strategic situation has changed.  The Ostwind has made field capture more difficult.  Radar has become much more important.  The Lancaster has made HQ more vunerable.

Actually, the changes may be quite nicely balanced.

Yup, changes are for the better. Now we are seeing more fights and field captures really need to be organised.

For the 1st time since beta i saddled up a 109G6 and got into a 1v1 against popy's Spit. Was a fantastic fight lasting close to 8 minutes. No other cons from either side, this let us do our thing. It was a hard worked kill and i had taken hits to my oil so i glided for the ditch.

109 is not my ride but 1v1 it did well. Now that field captures are not happening im havin a blast in the fighters i dont normally fly.

Dog out........

I must ask; how many times do you think that enemy unit would get 50 miles behind frontlines with a TANK and being unnoticed?

Some commando squad would go fine, but a vehicle is whole different thing.

Let's face that there will always be some sort of reserves and military police guarding the roads and villages etc. (and its highly unlikely that a tank can rush through forrest unnoticed)

One thing that I would leave off, would be ability to have sector counter beyond your frontline or 25 miles from frontline, and only have those field radars active.
That way you could also sneak below radar altitude without some 'nice' guy watching sector counter for sneak attack and getting the benefit of it.

Maybe make also those sectors bigger, so you couldn't just go in the middle of that sector and then look for a traffic 8 miles around you. (leaving just a small chance to get pass, it sucks)

Hmm, I think when you take out enemy city, then HQ, they have no radar, then, field capture of your choice deep in enema territory is possible, its got a name, can't  think of it right off the top of my head, ...Oh ya!  Its called Strategy!

One of Ziggies missions showed that field captures are quite possible ven if the enemy ups two or three flaks before the strike force gets there.

But what the flak has done is made field capture much wore failure prone; a standard German fighter carries one egg - if say there are three flak panzies up, and ya attck  moving flaks with eggs, maybe half will hit. One might get shot down.

SO, back for another ten minute ride, and when ya comeme back, vh spawns etc etc.

I.e if yer unlucky and miss the flaks with the eggs, they've already won. Don't even have to fire a shot, really.
