just gotta have someone decent in control of fleets on each side and they send them outa range

really dont see the need for the ships at all as they did not have a bearing on historic BOB and only flug up the A2A in AH BOB..

but still better than PTO :)

I agree with Eagler on the fleets, all they do is screw up the fights.

Guys,

The fleets are put in there for the Invasion of England - that is what the Battle of Britain was all about. Had the RAF not stopped the Luftwaffe, the Kriegsmarine would not have been far behind hauling the Army across.    We have to have the fleets because flying time is so great for a Goon and it will take a week to swim an LVT there.

I know what the main squeak is - those that "MISUSE" the fleets as a mobile flak battery. To counter this I have given the Allies the SBD and lowered the hardness on the fleets. I also limited each side to ONE fleet. There could be 6 more of them out there. Counter the fleets with each other and PT's & torpedoes.

I will make it simple - Warning to both sides - if they are overly misused as "Flak Batteries" I will remove them.  Fair Enough?

same for the brits; they'd be representative of both side's merchant shipping that operated in the area - in and out of the channel.  as far as i know there were no capital ships operating within the confines of the channel itself. the germans wouldn't have even risked theirs (nor the brits) until total air supremecy was achieved.

British ships up to Destroyer size commonly operated in the channel escorting convoys to the channel ports - some were even based there to repel the invasion should it come. The big Capital Ships of the Royal Navy where based at in Scotland where they could sweep down into the channel if needed.

German Warships pretty much stayed in German waters waiting on the LW to clear the skies over the channel although all the smaller landing craft and barges were kept ready in channel ports.

What we are really missing is the convoys of British merchant ships coming up the channel to Portsmouth & Southampton. Many of the largest airbattles during the BOB were over these convoys.

Shane, if you will read again I never said they were.

You will also notice that their are no "CAPITAL SHIPS" in the fleets that I set-up for each side. They are all DD fleets.

Just saying.   ;)

STRAT has perposely been disabled by the CT Staff on all maps. The reason being with Strat ON, targets such as the FIGHTER HANGAR that has a down time of 20 minutes will rebuilt faster then the specified downtime if supplies can get to it. Lots of people yelled about it so it was turned off.

It seems most people are interested in just A2A "Furballing" than actually going after the strategic targets on a map and stopping supplies to the targets such as the trains, barges and truck convoys.

I personally would like it turned back on to make it more realistic. But that is just me. I pesonally would like to see no icons and no inflight radar but the game dynamics make that unrealistic.

Didn't a couple of German captial ships (Scharnhorst and Gneisenau?) make a Channel dash once, from Brest to somewhere?

I wonder if that would make a good Snapshot event?
