Diary of a dweephoon - tankbusting

I almost logged from boredom before these films - hardly any action was going on except for some dull furballs near V41 at the top left of the map. Then I heard that the vehicle field had just been taken down, so I scrambled my Typhoon with rockets to defend. One problem though - they had CAP.

I think these are just about the most fun sorties I've ever had in AH. Check out the overhead furballs in the first film!
Plus, I only technically died in one   Canyons rock!

You should have seen some of my Tiffie air to ground missions when enemy fighters arrives...
I can only say that Tiffie was air to ground fighter mostly, not air to air...  with current Tiffie brits would have used it for shooting planes down on regular basis

Fishu, the Typhoon was just fine as an air-to-air plane at lower altitudes.  There were 16 pilots who attained ace status in the Typhoon.

It was not a great fighter at 25,000 feet, where the Luftwaffe was usually lurking, and it did not have long range.  That's what limited it from taking part in more fighter operations.  

Also it had greater load carrying capacity than the Spitfire, which made it a better choice for air-to-ground operations.

Finally, by the time Typhoons were based on the continent, the Luftwaffe was hard to find, so it was natural that most short-range fighter units were used for close air support.

I feel like target drone above 22,000ft in any Luftwaffe plane in AH...

Fishu, at 25,000 feet the Fw 190A-5 is 25 mph faster than the Typhoon and climbs 800 fpm better.

I think the Typhoon actually was not too bad at low levels vs LW aircraft.  I've read accounts of Typhoon pilots throttling back and dropping flaps while crossing the Channel to make themselves appear like Hurricanes on the German radar.  Often times the LW would send some planes after them, and at these lower levels the Typhoon had a large advantage in speed.  There is a picture in one of my books (series of them actually) of a 109G being hit by 20mm Hispano.  It took 4 pings and the 109 exploded.
