What would have happened had it dipped into the water even a bit.

I heard he said he would never do it again.  I bet he saw the film, saw how close his tail got to the water, and decided never to do it again then.

here's some details:

 

FLYING UNDER BRIDGES -- A NEW TRADITION? Lithuanian pilot Jurgis Kairys
has said he would like to make flying under bridges a new tradition in
his country, and to further this cause on Saturday he flew inverted
under a low bridge across the Nemunas River in Kaunas. As reported by
the Associated Press, the span-to-water clearance was about 33 feet.
Cheered on by a crowd of 200,000, Kairys, age 48, performed his stunt in
a Russian-made SU-26. Kairys, who flew under 10 city bridges in the
Lithuanian capital Vilnius last year, said he didn't think he would do
this particular stunt again, "even for a big reward." It seems even
"tradition" is not a strong enough motivator for some exploits.
