Dean?
Kerry?
Gephardt?
Sharpton?
Hillary?

Who are you guys backing?

He/She does not need be on the list above.

PS. What's the chances of Powell running in '08?

I would really like to see him run...truly a great man, and will surely get my vote.

Dean and Kerry are looking interesting - of course one has to wait and see what happens in Iraq over the next 24 months and if there is ANYTHING like a terror attack in USA in this time Bush is history.

If Powell ran he'd walk it. So imagine if it turns nasty in Iraq - or nastier, no WMD's questions of false information dragging  USA into a long war without an exit strategy - Bush doesn't seek the nomination of the Republican party similar to Lyndon Johnson in that other war and Powell rides in to save the day....

Going to be interesting....

I don't think we can compare LBJ and Vietnam with 50,000 dead, and costant protesting accompanied with civil unrest with GWB and Iraq.

THe democrats are doing everything they can to make a mountain out of a molehill about those 16 words, but theor great coup does not seem to be taking hold. I also don't see the bulk of the population making the WMD issue a pivotal point upon which to base their vote.

If nothing catastrophic happens at home or abroad, the condition of the economy come novermber '04 will color the voters.

Personally, I'd love to see HIllary throw her hat in the ring. You would see a voter turnout in this country like never before.

maybe with a stick but surely not running for POTUS in 04.

this is with or without another terror attack on US soil and if we do or don't find wmd's in iraq.

they better concentrate on 08 -  build a party and a platform by then - maybe

I disagree. I think Bush can beat himself.

Taking this nation to war on the claim of WMD is eventually going to require proof. While I'm viewed as some kind of arch-conservative by the more liberal posters here, I tell you now that that's going to be a very, VERY big issue with me come next Spring. As we near a year, they better find more than a few pieces of paper and rumors.

The economy will also figure into it. While Bush doesn't control the business cycle (and neither, despite the claims did any other President), he will need to be seen as "doing something" and "making positive progress".

Otherwise, the Democrats can run Scooby Doo and beat him.
