Hey, I Got An Idea
« on: October 26, 2000, 07:49:00 AM »
Let's just make sure we through temper tantrums, flame as hard as we can over this whole pricing thing, and that way we will make sure that we scare the hell out of the owners never to try a reduced pricing marketing project again.

Then we all get to keep on paying the higher price!  That would be great!!  I like you guys watching out for me so that I can continue to pay MORE!!  Thanks!!

Look, I'm not defending how HTC went about this.  But all these whiners and squeakers behaviour is not exactly above the perceived wrong actions.  Could HTC have done this better, I think so, but look at how this board reacts of even the smallest things.

Been a paying customer since day one, never opened up a second account (for any reason, and I've seen some lame excused to try to explain it).  I'm paying $30 bucks, got no email, and want one.

All these "Business Experts" pontificating here just cracks me up!  I'm sure you guys are darn smart, so smart that you can see the trees very well, just can't seem to get a visual on that forest though.

Anyway, keep complaining and spouting your knowledge on how to run a business better, I want to keep paying more (that was sarcasm BTW).

Flame on....who cares anyway.

Exactly, Cobra! <S>

The only business "expert" that helped me understand the situation better was Skuzzy, because he was able to explain it without the EGO thing.

Not that this requires an MBA to understand, mind you.

Would I keep paying $10-20 more per month than someone else for a few months, if it meant that there was a strong chance that my rate would be reduced to that level in the future? Hell yes!

This isn't the gas company, guys. This is the company that makes the best online flight simulator available on the market today, and I want to see them grow...and prosper. So yes, my atttitude is different over paying higher rates for AH, as opposed to my gas bill every month. I would probably raise hell if I found out that my neighbors were paying less for their gas than I was. But to me, this is different.

This is my passion, my hobby. I believe in supporting the people who share that same passion. Go HTC, go!

Agreed.

Ask yourself:
-Am I getting my moneys worth out of this entertainment?

If not, move on, I for one, don't care to hear you whine, though you're entitled to do so, I'll learn to skip your posts.

If so, stay, enjoy the sim, have confidence that where this sim is going in the future holds alot of promise for this community, and for other communities  willing to join it.

Amen.

Wonder how many of these trauma victims played through the beta for free? I do.

You would think the situation is like this...

Swat commander: "Pyro, HT, let the pilots go! No one wants to see anyone get hurt!"
Pyro: "Screw off!"
HT: "Yeah, what he said!"
Swat commander: "If you don't let the pilots go we're going to have to come in after you..."
Pyro: "Come on in! I have .45, .38, and .22 cal solutions for your problems!"
HT: "hehe"
Swat commander: "Now wait a minute, that wouldn't be fair. Either give us all the same caliber or I quit."
Swat team member: "Yeah, all of a sudden I feel unloved, traumatized, and all dirty. I need a hug!"
Pyro: "...want the same caliber...?"
HT: "!?"
Swat commander: "That's right. If I had been you, I would have opted for the higher caliber bullet for all. The way you did it, we all feel disrespected. I have been a swat commander for a whole 7 months now, and I won't tolerate this disrespect!"
Pyro: "I'm sorry, but this is about the silliest thing I have ever heard... aren't you supposed to try to talk me out of holding these hostages?"
HT: "Yeah, and then come storming in?"
Swat commander: "Too late. I was gonna, but now I think I'll just quit. I just don't feel the same about all of this anymore. I think I'll go home and have a good, long cry."
Swat member: "Hey, wait up! I'm with you!"
HT: "I guess we might as well close up shop here, Pyro..."
Pyro: <scratches head> "Yeah, I don't think I'll ever understand that one..."

I missed Skuzzy's post the irst go round thss am so  I did a ubb search found it and you're right. It is a superlative post.

Here is the meat of an email I sent to a guy the other day explaining WHY AH appeals to me and why I have no problem with the price nor with thier marketing/price point test. It is a comparision for the most with  AW, for he is an AWier. It took me ten minutes to write. The differences were so many.

==============

Another wonderful community. Alot of ex and current AW'ers are
there as well as some really good people from all over- WB's,
FA's, etc.  A very large internationl player base too!

NO CON LIMITS! Not 12, not 24, not 36. I see all contacts around
me and with nary an FPS hit. Been in a 50 plus plane ceremony
and it's the balls to see all those contsacts, near and far,
and NOT choke. I lost 4 FPS.

No "canned" replies to emails asking for help or trouble resolving.
Very promtp, thorough and courtious replies.

Load up the Aces High program and with one mouse click and I'm in.
No Web portal, no banner ads.

Each actual bullet and cannon round are modelled.

Tracers selectable on....or OFF

Rockets! And four different types. Air-Air for Germans and Air-to-
    ground for Allied aircraft

Fully adjustable wind settings; alt, direction, force and boundary
    layers buffet

Fantastically rock steady connection - medium to low double digit
ping rates in comparison to never better than 350 with Game-
storm using the same PC and same ISP conection.

The Typhoon!

No "TOS" kOpPfS! We have a potty word filter.

Not once has the HTC online automatic updater "raped" my
    installation of the sim.

News on what is currently happening and on the future at about
    once a month.

NO Relaxed Realism arenas full of "kEwL dOoDz"

No magical dive bombing site on fighters!

I can fly in 1280X1024 resolution, 32bit mode with hi-res textures
   with 40+fps in flight

A moving sun in the sky

Constant particapation in the newsgroup by the HTC group and even
more community particaption on their part as they fly online
several times a week talking and answering customer questions.
As well coming online and flying for fun.

Beautiful, moving, cat & mouse CLOUDS!!!

A time of day: night time, dawn, dusk, etc..

Drop tanks!

Aces High is where the old AW DOS vets are

Five channels of usable text communications

Multiple ordinance choices

Different gun calibres are modelled. Each with thier indiviual
    characteristics

Lighting effects visible on terrain and aircraft, in flight or
    on the ground.

A feared Yak-9U

a really good damage model; for aircraft and ground installations

Better aircraft graphics over all

Engine torque!

A much more complex and higher fidelity flight model

3D cockpits

the LANCASTER

seperate gun controls

A "wounded" pilot effect

gun pods on aircraft that had them

TERRAIN EDITOR - I can now be "Mage"

bomber pilot can gun self -controlling multiple guns if possible
    gun convergance

Aces High will constantly evolve, no maintenance mode. No coasting
fantastic mission editor

Graphics are 3D and "One size fits all" full screen mode only

Much better blackout and redout features

The B-26!

Seperate fuel tanks modeled with choice of auto or manual selection

HTC has "Skuzzy" who is the VP of APPLink in Dallas who monitors and
constantly improves the performance of the connection to HTC as
well as being most helpfull to users and recommend ways to get a
better connection.  Always online, always available!

Italian planes - Macchi 202 and 205

Integrated Roger Wilco vox communications

P-47D-R30.  A REAL bubble top Jug

P-47D-R25.  A real 350th FG Brazilian bubble top jug

Average of 120 "FULL REALism" flyers online in one arena each night

Panzer, M16, Ostwind AND an M3 troop carrier as well as the C47.

Version 1.05 will have naval features: programmable CV fleets,
user controlled PT boats, landing craft and mannable ship
    batteries.

A P-38 "L"  (Cod bless them!)

Easily editable sounds (.wav files)

Alot more CM tools for scenarios

3D gunsights

HTC only focus's on Aces High, not "Bop the Bunny" or "TinCan
    Battle-Bots"

NO "MACRO" spewage on the public channel from the prepubescents.

Trim: It doesn't effect the socialable aspect of the game/sim in
the least. I can "fly" my plane liek I used to in AW without
loss of interaction with others at all. My time is not spent
managing my aircrafdt at all times. Just like riding a bicycle,
I do not have to think or concentrate on every nuance in
order to keep the thing in motion or upright.

Undeniabley larger group of very high caliber opponant. There is
a very large number of flyers have been doing this for 10
    plus years.

The Aces High community talks more seriously about WW-II and the
aircraft of the period on thier boards.

It won't take years to get HTC fix a problem with the P-47 flight
model. If I can prove there is an error they will evaluate the
   information and take emmediate action.

Hiyas!

Well, now this P*isses me off somehow.

WHAT ARE ALL THESE GUYS COMPLAINING ABOUT????

There was a post by some economy-student or something that said how HTC should have wrapped the pricing test in some other words that dont seem so clear.
Well, thats it! That is the thing I actually like about HTC!

They dont try to cheat us by telling it the other way around, they suppose us to be clever enough to understand whats going on. And I would be suspicious if they tried to wrap it into some euphemisms for the simple minded.
Actuall there is NO (in words "No") bad thing about all this. I have subscribed for 30$ and i thought at that moment that it was worth the price and i think it now. So why should I complain about paying 30$?
I see that HTC tries to test how a descend in priceing will affect their finances. It would be too much of a risk to just lower the prices for all from one day on.
And I dont think HTC will try or has ever thought about fishing for new costumers with low prices and keep us paying 30$ or something.
Well I could imagine that the low pricing strategy works. And if not, they just will raise the price for subscriptions again.
I dont even want to imagine all the whines about rising the price again, when HTC would have lowered it for testíng for some time.
I mean: how much do you all have to whine every day when u look and see how much your once-so-expensive-and-state-of-the-art-gaming-rig does cost today...

But who knows - maybe im just too dumb to see

<S> to all who are still here
