The Catch-22 of religion
« on: August 06, 2003, 12:46:01 PM »
So here you have the Episcopalians confirming their first openly gay bishop.  While I applaud their coming into line with contemporary societal views, how can any religion maintain any credibility when they change their interpretations of the “Word of God” to suit their needs?

Religion, like all human reasoning,  is open to interrpretation.

Simple. Religions have been re-interpreting the WoG for centuries. They are merely adapting with the times(albeit being dragged by wild horses...and slowly, at that).

At least organized religions(well, most) have learned that if they don't adapt and change to societal norms, they are at risk of losing membership(dollars).

I don't think there is anything in the Bible about bishops or Episcopalians.

What is an Episcopalian, anyway?  Do they allow their pastors to marry?

The devoutness of your religiousness is inversely proportional to your enjoyment of life.

Example:  Fantatical muslims hate their lives so much they explode themselves.

Slightly muslim person eats pork and beer and spends free time fishing.

I think the presbyterians did this a few yeas ago (gay pastor that is.) We'll probibly see more of this among the less conservative organizations in the next few years.

Last bus for hell now boarding...

Mr. Scorcese..seat 14A
Mr. Hussein...14C
Mr. Funked.......22B
Mr. SOB...Hmmm...you seem to be the conductor.

The catholic religion is nefarious for adjusting the WoG to fit it's recruiting efforts. Example..the historical record shows Jesus was most likely born in September. Yet we celebrate his birth on December 25th. Why? Because December 25th was the pagan holiday, the feast of the everlasting sun..or something. When the roman empire moved to Catholicism, they found it would be easier to gain converts if people did not have to change their holiday.

What about that pesky Hell/Heaven thing? Well, we can fix that. At least one of the early Pope's can. He's a man, just like us...well some of us. Anyway, guess who created purgatory?  Yep...a pope.

I believe organized religion is the worst thing that could happen to faith.

Oh, Jerry Falwell Sucks...not as much as hippes...but he still sucks

The measure of a troll.  Someone that starts a thread and never comments in it, never attempts to manage it, and never attempts to keep it on topic.  Just FYI.

This topic has the earmarks of being extremely volitile.  Just a side step in the hopes of keeping it civil.
