Greatest Rock 'n Roll album?

Wow.

First off, I agree with Sicko-Boy, compilations shouldn't count (with the exception of live sets). We're looking for original releases that don't have any weak spots - albums you love every song from.

I'm all over the Dark Side of the Moon suggestions. Only reason I can't say that's my #1 is that I like Welcome to the Machine, Animals, and Meddle equally as well. They are an essential part of my "must have in the car" CD pack.

Highway to Hell is also a great suggestion. A classic from start to finish. In the same vein, one could suggest several Stones albums, Tattoo You for example.

A case could be made for any of the first 3 Led Zepplin offerings. Same problem here as with Pink Floyd - it'd have to be a box set for me. Deep Purple as well - CAWD! how many tons of LSD did I consume 30 years ago while listening to In Rock, Fireball, and Machine Head over and over and over.....(yeah, I'm an old hippy!)

There's albums from many bands that IMO rate consideration. I could go on and on. But, enough BS. I'll take a stand.

Secret Treaties by Blue Öyster Cult.

Did you pass by a place called "EAT"? Burned down about 10 years ago.

Anyhow, they widened the road to 4 lanes in most places. Doesn't seem as cool now.

Yes, Lake of Fire, Plateau, The Man Who Sold The World are all covers and some of my favorites on the Album.

The whole album is pretty much a great straight-through listen.

Hmm, don't recall "EAT", but it's possible. Listening to Floyd with headphones on and cruising that floating 2 lane at around 90 with the sun setting across the springtime desert sky... it was one of those "perfect" moments. The nice fatty may have helped somewhat.

Used to do the same thing going from my sister's house at Edwards AFB to my place in San Luis Obispo. Loved that drive.

Yeah Eddie'll go first
'Cause he's more famous
More famous than the Rugburns

Put eight tracks in 'em
Playin' Houses of the Holy

Compilations do count, all I care for is that they are rock 'n roll.  Live albums too.  Nirvana Unplugged is a squealing great CD.  My faves of that CD are The Man That Sold The World, Jesus Don't Want Me For A Sunbeam, and the cover of Leadbelly's classic Where Did You Sleep Lastnight.

As for Supertramp, that singer they have always gave me a headache, sorry.

Concept album?  Oh man...Animals, The Wall, DSOTM, Quadrophenia, Tangerine Dream's Phaedra, I could go on and on.  But I would have to say that Jeff Wayne's musical version of War Of The Worlds is something I still get a thrill listening to.  I don't know why, the songs are ok to good but the whole thing comes together very well for me.

Progressive rock I have to tip the hat to Going For The One by Yes, with a close second to Relayer.  Gates of Delirium is 20 mins of pure bliss.

Best live album?  Hmmm...BoG Live at the Fillmore East, B B King Live at the Regal, SRV and DT In The Beginning, The Who Live at Leeds, Yes Yeshows.  I love em all.

My fave living guitar player?  Eric Johnson.  I usually don't get too excited over highly technical players but his chops are...well, Texas sized.  Camel's Night Out is best when it is played at the highest volume you can stand.  And that tone...

But, at the end of the day it usually boils down to two albums that I have that get the most use.  It depends on my mood.  If I am in a hyper mood then it's Back In Black.  If I am in a drinking mood then it's SRV's Texas Flood.  IMHO there wasn't a finer contemporary electric blues guitar player than SRV (note-I am not including Hendrix here because he was wayyyyyy beyond mere lables, he was something that you can't quantify).  B B King is the greatest of all time but Stevie Ray played it all.  Rock, funk, R n B, country blues, soul,...very little he could do wrong.  Except get on that GD helicopter.  August 27th is never a good day for me.

I can see why you are just ratin' Rock and Roll.

Anything by Hank Williams kicks arse on all this hippie stuff.

It ain't music unless it has some cryin' in it.
