Brits are received rather well old chap...but you still need a work permit.

We are very lucky to be subjects of the Crown...the UK have offered full citizenship and right of abode in the UK, but has not made this reciprocal to its own citizens. Again, the reason being that it is just too small of an island and every yobo with an urge for a suntan would be parked on the beaches.

We are self governed for the most part...basically we look to the UK for help when needed. Such help can be very beneficial when you are situated so close to the US and are in the Financial Services "game".

Work permits are a bit of a political "hot potato" here at the moment. We have a labour government which has passed legislation requiring such permits to be limited for 6 years, unless the individual is classified as a "key" employee. The limit is extended to 10 years in that case...with exemptions for essential personel, such as CEOs or CFOs.
If they know what is good for them, and the island in general, they will hopefully re-visit this concept. It could usher in the beginning of the end for our status as a preferred place to do business offshore.
It's your call on the accounting designation Dowding...but no matter what happens in Bermuda, accountants will always be in great demand here and in the other islands to the south. It is a designation that would hold you in good stead and make you marketable in any country in the world.
