XP Upgrade
« on: August 10, 2003, 05:53:29 PM »
I'm going to be upgrading to XP from 98 soon.

Anyone have any pointers or warnings of things to look out for?

Thanks

As far as AH goes i've found it to be pretty much flawless. Especially if you have usb controllers.

It's been by far the easiest i've ever had to set up my CH stuff.

I'd get XP pro, home is great, it's what I use but I've had a few problems with it.
XP home upgrade is great but if I had to do it over I'd get the full version of XP pro. Just my opinion.

I have Home on one box and Pro on the other.  Other than file encryption and some more advanced network options, I don't see much difference.  I haven't had any trouble with either for last 19 months, but I would definitely go with a full install rather than upgrade.  Use a minimum of 512 Ram cause XP likes it and do go to BlkViper.com to plug security holes and kill useless services.

Thank you all for the advice.

I've decided that I will go with the Pro full version instead the update.

I've already started looking at eBay for it unless anyone happens to have an extra copy laying around that hasn't been installed yet and wants to sell it :D

Once again, thank you for all the responses.

i just built a box with xp; it was the easiest install and configuration I have ever done. except for the rouge outlook express that ate every email it could get; fixed that by installing outlook (the non-express version).
