Trinity: the reason behind the 'reset corner'
« on: August 11, 2003, 09:13:35 AM »
I think I found the reason why it is always the south side that gets beat, and never the other two.

For the NE side, the island which holds P203/CV204 is the ultimate defense line, probably the single most important base on the whole NE-NW front. As we know, usually the south side meets trouble when CVs crawl up to its left side - this, is practically impossible for the NE side. The left flank, is very harshly protected. By the port, and the CV spawning there.

Also, for the NW side, the northern shores only hold two accessible airfields from the sea, those two are more than 100 miles apart. Effectively, the chain of capturable bases, as seen at the left flank of the S country, is not seen in the NW country.

 So.. I suggest:

1) Move the island holding P203 50 miles north.
2) Switch P160 and A162 position.
3) Remove the islands at 15.5 sector - major natural barrier which makes CVs inaccessible.
4) Switch position of A115 and P152. Since P152 will then be at inland, move it to the shore a bit.
5) Move A44 down 25 miles, to where P47 now stands.
6) Move P47 to a distant island, and make it a island base, preferably at 3.6.1

Noted. If I get to make anymore changes to Trinity, I will take a serious look at your suggestions.

Personally, I believe it is a lot simpler than that. As I have posted else where, I believe A1 is the biggest problem for the guys in Reset Corner. That field is at 3k and at the beginning of a pass through the mountains that is only 3k. All the other passes range from 5 to about 7.5k. Add to that, A1 is the field that EVERYONE in that country pops into when they enter the game.

All of that seems to make it way to easy for folks to stage attacks out of A1 with a more than reasonable chance of success.

I've always thought that the low numbered fields should be placed deep in a countries territory, preferebly close to the HQ. This might help eliminate some of the auto-furball fields that every map has. The fights can be great fun, but forcing a player to look at the entire map when he logs on might not be a bad thing.

Agreed. One of the things I learned AFTER I did Trinity :).

i think there's more than that ....

i think it has something to do with the layout of the "Zone" bases.

IIRC it's A41 in the middle in the south. it is a steamroll to that base from the north usually from what i've seen. that really puts a crimp on the south to get it back, in the mean time losing bases along the eastern front. the other countries have zone bases that aren't as easily accessible IMHO. dont know exactly why but just not as easy to get a foot hold in the other countries.

also from what i have seen, as soon as one of the "Zone" bases is under attack in the NE and W countries they are easier to defend. A41 can be attacked in so many more ways than A201 ans A142 i believe.

oh well my 2¢
I don't know what to put here yet.

and of course the old monkey see habit...

90% of all resets on each map happen to the same corner, SE just happened to be where it was done first for trinity, therefore that's OF COURSE the only way to do it.

speak up anyone who's even considered resetting another side of trinity

i saw the NW side get reset... it was a sneak effort by the rooks. :D

there was a series of bases that you can take NOE or with GV's in a line right to HQ. then just fan out from there.

btw <<>> NB i LOVE trinity btw it the BEST map AH has !!!

my comments are just thoughts that are for your consideration. i could be totally off, its just how i attack the south.

think about being in the NE side. as soon as A190 falls its a mad rush to push them off your homeland. it just doesn't seem as easy near A30 (or whatever the base south of tank town is) i think it's because the GV ride from those bases are so different. down in the south they are fast level trips. and each base goes to the next. up north not all bases have as many GV spawns.

again just my 2¢

A39 is always the first field to be taken (well, besides V4) and the entire NW country dogpiles it after a reset.. It might help to make it harder to be taken, maybe a 1k of alt, increase it to a medium.

I also love the 'auto-jabo' feature that 39 has.. forces people to climb up from the 4-something base to the east, then the cliff that everone dives over like a buncha lemmings and drops ord.

:D
