Fuel Porkage and I'm becoming a lazs
« on: August 11, 2003, 10:18:05 AM »
As some of you know I took a little break in the past few months. Helped my sons baseball team, working on a redneck racer and a few other projects. I've been flying more and more lately and have been enjoying the game again. But there is one thing I do not enjoy, that's people porking the fuel at my airfield. I fly me109's more than anything else and generally need 75% fuel to get anywhere. Last night I flew some soirties and had some fun, til some dufus decided to kill the fuel at all our front line fields.

Now I used to be a strat person and have even bombed fuel myself in the distant past. But that was several thousand sorties ago. Back in the day when I'd get in 200 post threads with the likes of SWwulfe, Dejavu and lazs over the importance of radar being toned down. Nowadays I get a weak stomach when a squaddie proposes a mission. All I want to do is furball now. HT, how about indestructive fuel in the MA when the new version comes out? Or, lets just add score to the Dueling arena. That would be cool.

I'm becoming more and more like lazs. Before long I might just get that ugly.  I hope not.

Hey HB,

Wondered where you had ran off too.  Hope all is well with you and yours.

I am basically the same way any more.  When I log in, all I want is daylight, and close fight, and a bunch of action.

Actually, the fuel disabling at fields is affecting more than just furballers.

There's definately an "impact vs risk" issue going on with AH right now.  Too many people are suiciding to destroy objects because the reward greatly outweighs the risk.

Modifications that were screamed for:
[list=1]
  • Flak should not be so lethal:  Now planes can aproach as low as 6k over a carrier relatively unmolested.  Of course, flak was always lethal and prevented this type of behavior, but people go blind when they start evaluating what makes a successful sortie.
  • Ack should not be so lethal:  Now, you can fly repeatedly down an enemy runway at 400mph without getting hit by ack.  Or, you can dive in from 10k and be guaranteed at least one shot at something pending an auger.  The ack is the least likely thing to cause a death anymore.
  • Increased downtime for destroyed objects:  Now, the minimum down time at some fields for fuel down time is 2 hours.  One pilot can make multiple trips to suicide the field one fuel tank at a time and still leave it alone for 1 1/2 hours after that.
  • Re-supply is too effective:  Now, its pretty much innefective.  Saw 8 M3s supply a base with no effect (oh... shorten times, but not so you'd notice).
I could keep going... but its too damn depressing.  Whenever someone starts an argument based on making their flight/fight/sortie easier OR "more successful", I just shake my head.  Bombers want to have more of an impact despite the fact that they are strategic weapons that would more often than not take months to show any tangeable results (and even then still be questionable).  Fighters don't want jabo/bombers to interfere with their fight, despite the fact that the sole reason fighters exist is to stop jabo/bombers or prevent other fighters from stopping jabo/bombers.  Its the biggest collection of me me me me squeaking I've ever seen.

I liked the game before the adjustments and argued to keep things the way they were.  People could actually become more proficient at what they were doing to overcome most of the complaints.  Very few of the modifications were worth anything other than simply meaning people wouldn't have to learn to fly or fight.  It really is sad that a community would scream so often and so loudly just to make their life a little easier and skilless.

After all... it's all about having fun playing a game.  And it's all about doing ONLY those things you find fun while playing the game.  And it's all about only worrying about making those things you find fun easier to do.  God forbid anyone else's fun interferes with that.  And God forbid if the game doesn't allow you to have the kind of fun you want often enough.

Hey Hblair-

Glad you signed on. I was wondering something.

Saturday night, I flew over you in a Tiger, while I was flying B-26's.

Just for a giggle, I fired a few rounds from my waist gun and got a few pings.

At the very instant I went back to the cockpit, and got a kill message that I shot you down.

WTF happened? I could not have detroyed the tiger with a 50 cal. I am assuming you ended your sortie as I was flying overhead, but needed to ask.

I would agree,

The Ease in which a single plane can reduce fuel vs the effects it causes, and the effort to nulify that action, is not well balanced at this point.

The above thread had a few decent Ideas.

i dont like the fuel pork bs either (former strat dweeb I am too) ive been seeing entire front lines fuel  porked for hours nonstop, goons have minimal effect at fixing what 1 fighter can do to an entire airbases fuel supply.

its out of whack
Fester was my in game name until September 2013

My understanding is that it takes *437 re-supply trips to bring the fuel back to normal, while it takes just one trip in a fighter to pork the fuel.

*this is an intentional exaggeration placed only to drive the point home....please do not overreact and have a fit.

What fester said is about right ......  One plane can take down fuel for hours.....    Resupply goons need to have the same effect or near it .... at the  least a goon trip should provide some imediate fuel relief..
