Eternal Dar?
« on: August 14, 2003, 11:14:18 AM »
Many people, especially with limited time, have legitimate complaints about how hard it is to find the best fights when a country radar is down -- the fabled Eternal Dar, the omniscient total country radar.

It's probably safe to say most people play Aces High to fight, not to wander around seeking targets.

How about continuing to allow taking out radar at individual bases, but NOT entire countries?  That seems both more realistic and more playable.

Yeah I've always felt hittin one building at the back taking all the dar down abit of a joke...

My solution...  as long as HQ is up all fields communicate and you see dar as it is currently when you are in the tower!!!

if hq is down! or you are in flight you ONLY see dar for the field you are actually at.
You do not see any dar, cons what have you at other bases, unless you actually move to that base.

As you fly into another fields dar coverage, the field you started from, all dar and cons displayed on the map dissappear and the new field's dar etc is now displayed.  This would represent to a degree radio comms between the pilot and the tower.

Oh yeah, but this would still have the current field dar which is destroyable

So even if you login to find hq flat, it won't take you long to find a fight

Perhaps leave dar bars visible on the map at all times while HQ is up

The ability to take out an entire countries radar provides "some" incentive for folks to up mass bomber formations and make an attempt at the opposing countries radar... and even when successful, the dar doesn't stay down all that long.

Back in "the day", these big, escorted bomber formations weren't all that unusual, and made for some very interesting engagments.  That was LOTS of fun, haven't seen much of it in the last year at least, but I wouldn't want to see the incentive go away.

If anything, making the HQ harder to kill which would require MORE bombers (right now 1 pilot with a formation can take the dar down) would be in order (IMHO).

But... you don't need no stinkin dar anyway!

what knocking down the HQ represents in AH is the disruption of command and control not actual "radar"

Another idea i had....how about airborne radar? I know there was a few planes with radar, albeit fragile n vulnerable. bein able to up a plane with radar would be a good alternative I think, would take some plannin to get high enough, or even just gettin in the air and within range of an airfield being attacked that has no radar, even hq's that dont have radar; would also take 1 person out of the fight, just for radar.
