I could be mistaken though.

Nope..I think you will find that Quebec is where you are thinking about (or aboot  ;) ).  They sell it to the US cities rather than say..Nova Scotia because it is paid for in US dollars.  :)

But Toronto gets its power from Pickering Nuclear Station for the most part.

One thing is for sure though.

This happened almost exactly the same way in the late 60's. ConEd threw a breaker and the whole grid went down. Since then they have spent BILLIONS re-doing the system so that it would never happen again.(Federally supplied Billions...Nat Defense) Wanna bet it's the same breaker at the same station that went down?

Let us not polk fun at those who are without power. I want all of us Californians to remember the support and sympathy we got during our power problems. May your food stay fresh or frozen. May your power come on before the sun goes down. May your hospitals emergency power last. I feel for you in the North East for we are now brothers.........

But just in case I hope you have batteries candles generators and some dry ice.

No power problems here in AZ. Even if it was a problem my RV with gen and ac is right outside the house today. :D

A Dept. of Homeland Security Spokesman on ABC refuses to say it was not Terrorism. In fact this guy is laying out a good plan for terrorists to follow, giving out key locations that would cripple the power grid. First it was the pot dealers that supported terrorism, then the head shops that supported terrorism, then porn that supported terrorism....is it ConEd now? Don't get me wrong, DHS is a good idea, they just have morons working there.

There was an electrical explosion of some sort about 3 stations ahead of a subway I was riding in. It brought the whole line to a halt, and we were stuck in this subway for 3 HOURS. THREE HELLISH HOURS. It was about 5:30 so it was standing room only. I didn't have a seat. It was summer, people were sweating, there were crazy mofos just SCREAMING gibberish after a while, just completely LOSING THEIR toejam. And the car STANK. Man.... did that ever SUCK.... thought I was gonna die. The fact that it was impossible to smoke didn't help matters.

Finally the conductor comes over the PA... "We came to a stop on a slight incline. I'm going to release the brake and see if we can roll this to the station ahead". Slowly the subway started to creak.... then inch forward... almost imperceptable at first... then a bit faster.... faster still... At that point people are starting to get really excited, and the train is now hauling arse down this hill. "Go! Go! Go! Go!" people chanted. A total frenzy. Yelling this at the top of their lungs. But then.....

The train started to level off and began to slow... and slow... Doubt started to take hold... you could hear it in our voices as the "Go!" began to curl up at the end and sound like a question. "Go....?" Finally the sub exhausted its inertia and we groaned to a stop. It grew dead silent, all but for the scattered sobbing that some of the women there began to do. There was another sound... distant... was it.... cheering?

Definitely cheering, coming from ahead of us somewhere. The conductor got on the PA. "We made it folks. Please proceed to the front of the train." It was incredible.... We walked through the doors that led from one car to the next to the next. When we got to the car at the front of the subway, the door was open and we walked out onto the platform. It turns out that the subway had made it just far enough that the first door *just barely* opened out onto the platform. If it were just two feet short it would have opened up to nothing but a wall.

I feel for anyone stuck in a subway right now... that's for damn sure.
