from what i heard on the news is that NY subway system has planned for power outages and has a way tow the cars to nearest exit. blitzer interviewed a women who was caught in the subway , she said the subway workers led them up emergency stairs to the street.
blitzer asked her if anyone panicked, she said everyone was calm.

I dont want to add to the paranoia and speculation, but we had a stream of severe power surges and blackouts today in the afternoon.
This does not usually happen, electricity is usually excellent and consistent here.

Obviously there has to be something very wrong if it affected PR, or a very strange coincidence.

heh Nash.  years ago when I was living in Paris, I had a buddy take the 3-hour-tour through the Chunnel from London to Paris.

His train got cancelled due to weather, so they put him on the next train, which was then completely full.  Then the thing had an electrical failure down under the channel.  He endured 4 hours of complete darkness and the heat of a fully-loaded car.  The only thing that worked was the emergency door alarm system that emitted a shrill noise loud enough to be heard if the door were opened at 300 kph.
Then they got to wait outside on a platform in Calais.  By now the light snow had become a snowstorm. Then they filled to the gills a regional train that crawled towards paris.
The whole ordeal lasted something like 15 hours.  He was scheduled to leave at 12:30 from London.  He arrived at 4:15 AM.  I went down to check out the folks getting off the replacement (regional slow) train.  Man, there was a group that looked like hell.

YEah, it sucks to be in this.  My heart goes out to these guys.

I don't think some realise how many people are w/o power......  as many as 50 million people could be affected.

Ottawa came back up at around 2 am.  It was kind of neat, the city being so dark and all.  People congrated in pubs, stoops, walked around, as they are want to do in situations like this.  Wouldn't want to make a habit of it though.

Here is an odd one.  We lost power here last night for about an hour and a half.  No storms to be found, it just went dead.

Removing a few million people off the overseas pipes/junction makes a bit of a difference.

Guess you'd have to be grateful it didn't happen during the winter.

I did lived through a week long power outtage at the begining of February a few years back.

large areas of quebec and northern Vermont, Ney york and think Maine as well where out of power after very large ice storm.

I lived in my car most of the time :D

I live in westland Michigan and on thrusday we had no power, no water, and no cell phone use.  Everthing was out!  HOT AS HELL.  but today it shows some rain.
Thank god my mother who lives in CAnton Michigan got power at 8am on friday. So my wife and i packed our dogs and whats left of our food in the car and headed to canton.

One nice thing is that last night was the first time in a LONG time i saw stars out. :D

Best drinking night in a long time, seems like everyone was just smoking cigs and drinking trying to stay cool.  We went to our friends house last night to drink (nothing better to do) and it was like a block party everyone was out having a good time.

Gas stations are HORRABLE the one by my mothers house (which had power) has a 1/4 mile line to even get in the station.

Cya guys in a few days.

Can't help but giggle at the two most advanced countries in the world having these power losses...

Bagdad has more power than New York.

oh...it's getting a tad chilly in here...I had better turn down my a/c.

:p
