Hmmmm-so what is the terrain editor going to do?  Can it make the arena "historical" in appearence?  Can bases be moved/deleted etc.. ?  As far as critical mass of players goes, i don't see how its just going to get bigger if you don't have a way of attracking more with a different battlefield layout and different battle goals/possibilities. The competition is offering a historical geography and dynamic campaign of sorts.  I think a lot of the younger/less experienced players may play AH for a while then get bored and the older players either know they want more of a H2H thing or will just wait it out till another sim comes out. How far can you go by adding new planes once in a while but not changing the battlefield and battle strategy?

I'm all for some type of historical or axis v. allied arena. I just keep remembering how the numbers in the other sims HA went down hill when it went 24/7. Other than some type of event, hardly anyone was there.
It seems to me that most of us that want an arena of this kind are "experienced sim pilots" if I may use that term. Are our numbers large enough?

Probably not, Apache. Especially if you consider all the different times we play at. Looks like the hard-core historical guys are going to have to wait until the numbers are where HT and Pyro want them to be.

I don't know any other sim with an Historical Arena except for Warbirds and one reason (I think) why there were few numbers in the HA there was that everybody was in the MA and nobody wanted to go into the HA to play by your self or maybe 10 other for $2 per hour, you noticed that once there were like 20 people in there the numbers would raise even further, sometimes up to 60 wich is fully acceptable in my opinion.

Apache, you're probarly right that it's mostly the old experienced pilot who want this, unfortunatly :-(

Whatever the arena, as people log on, perhaps assign them to a field and to an open wing. The new recruits (guys like me) get assigned to the wing of a more experienced pilot. I have to follow orders but gain more experience in a few hours than I could ever get on my own.
The wing leaders get some additional wingmen, better control over strat, and the chance to improve their effectiveness.
People who only want to log on and look for something to shoot can opt out and do their own thing.
Squads can either fill in their ranks or not.
