Give Us Something To Fight For!!!!
« on: August 15, 2003, 11:51:07 PM »
We need city names, countries, road crossings, geographical anomalies, smal farm hands.  Anything, to cut the monotonous routine of having to kill a chess piece day in and day out.  I would rather say I defended Berlin then say 11,2,5 on the key pad or A69 on the map.  What would it take to get this changed?  Act of Congress or Nude pics of Tonya Harding?  You decide........

If Tod is going to be set in '40's Euro and other combat theaters, one can assume that bases, cities and the like will have their proper names labeled.

I would also like to see base names for the fields in the Classic arena too, the numbers get kind of boring after awhile.  Name the fields after squads or something like that.

I agree. Simple number field names are stale and unimaginative. Fights are just fights and retelling the tales to squadmates and others becomes bland or forgetful when trying to remember where the action happened.

Without looking at the map, who can tell me where A27 is on the Baltic map? How about A12 on the Big Isles?

I know I have NO idea.

I remember a lot of old AWII stories being told about great fights near many of the well known fields.

How do you expect to fit proper names on to the clip board map?

You cant hardly read most of the maps now.

They'd probably have to incorporate a zoom feature to the map or sumpin. :D (barring the current unresizing icons we seem to have now)

Then there's the option of leaving numbers (or abbreviations) and incorporating a "mouse over" feature that reveals or expands the full name.

There's ways for the imaginative. ;)

There used to be some real good fights at Moggy and Centurion in the big pond area.

The M.A.W. base should be a pointless Vbase or something in the middle of nowhere surrounded by stagnant swamps,  with 2 rotten old tree's on either side of it named Urb and BGB.

Now... The 418 Base, that should be like the old 12k A1 large base, but also with gold plated runways and scantily clad women distributing free beer on the rearm pads.

Hmmmmmm . . .

Geographical Anomalies . . . .

A large greyish-green mass of rocks and trees we could call . . .

"Brady's Booger!"

;-)

I think there should be a map with Meditteranean names, one with Frech and English names, one french and germanic, one Russian and other Slavic (maybe some in Cryllic?), one with Thai, Burmese names, etc.

This is a swell idea, in my opinion.  If you've ever flown in the CT and seen teh finnish map, geez louise, talk about immersion!  That map makes the rest of Aces High look like crap city as do a couple of teh wonderful Pacific maps.  The greek mapo is also a favorite of mine.
