Runways...

Not sure this has been said before.  I apologize now if it has.  But what about making the runways unusable if a certain percentage of it's hit.  Say 75% of the runway itself is hit by bombs and it's rendered useless till it regenerates.

This is mainly for the medium and large airfields.  Opposed to isolating and damaging all the Strats you could just isolate runways.  Would be very useful for squad based missions.  Isolate 2 of 3 runways and they can only up from the remaining 1 and hangars.  Also you wouldn't be able to up large loaded aircraft if the center divider is damaged.  Reason being is you wouldn't be able to use the whole strip for your takeoff.

Now I'm not sure how quickly they could rebuild a runway in WWII but it would have to be quicker than rebuilding hangars and resupplying the field itself.  Anyway just a thought.  Good hunting...

Would be pretty funny to put a big 4,000lb bomb crater in the middle of the runway, then watch noobs try and take off - only to fall into it and die.  Imagine the prox kill possibilities!

The runway is destroyable, but with default settings, it takes 125,000 pounds of bombs, and stays down for 5 seconds.

not a map bug, but an arena setting, goto single player and check it out.  Get 3 folks in lanc formations and goto your nearest enemy field don't need to be high, 5kish, and watch the runway go good bye, but its only for a short while.

Runway destruction is a real life method of crippling an airfield, I'd like to see it in AH.

i say instead of having it completely destroyed just have it so the craters are actual craters and you can fall in em, i think itd be pretty interesting trying to take off while weaving throught them

A natural correlary to this should be that spawning aircraft don't all start in the same place.  Put some variation in where on the field they appear.  eg, maybe the plane needs to taxi 5 seconds, maybe it taxis for 10 seconds.  This variation would allow people to avoid craters on spawn point by making the spawn point variable.

Nah, that's just a side-effect of choosing to spawn on the runway directly, it's a short-cut.  If you want to avoid bomb craters, you need to spawn in the hangar.

problem is, in AH, it is just as easy to take a plane off from grass than it is from the runway. Therefore, if the runway gets destroyed, planes would just take off on the grass.

But, i have to admit that bombing the living crap out of a runway sounds fun.
