Why is so dificult surviving in AH????
« on: August 20, 2003, 05:42:01 AM »
I am really upset.   Every flight I make I have to struggle against me and ghosts to return safely home.

What do I mean?

I can only land 1/3 of my flights. Thats imposible to improve that! And here comes the fishy part. Most of my deaths has not to do with enemies planes.

The majority of my deaths are:

88 mm CV ack from enemie CV which is 2 sectors away!!!

Taking off from CVs in the direction of the wind...less drag!!

Lot of Breaking my wingtips in very high G turns.

Kissing deck while I am capping (cc I vulch....lets help C47s made their work ;) )

Lots of rammings while I am blowing enms up at 200 yards.

Very few killshooters.

Some CV landings.

I suck! >Its a very worse taste being killed by your incompetence than by your enemies. And it happens to me a lot.

Just needed to drop that feeling.

My 0.2 egocents

I always die from BS cv ack too.  As soon as it starts shooting at you it seems to follow you until you are about 20 miles away, even if you are behind mountains etc.

Taking off from CV is not effected by wind, because the Wind layer in AH MA is at 16,000 feet.  You can backup on cv by setting rpm to around 20 - 22 so you can get a longer run up
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

Several reasons actually.

It helps to fly smart, but that takes practise & patience.

CV ack doesn't shoot 2 sectors, but 5" manned guns on the CV can certainly ruin your day if you let them.

Breaking your wings often? You shouldn't be, listen to the plane. Turn down the engine sounds, turn up the wind. Listen to the stress as the frame creaks & groans.

It will always tell you what you need to know.

The Main is a very nasty place, its full of people who have been playing this for a LONG time.

I suggest you try the Combat Theater some evening. You'll probably still die a lot, but you'll know why.

Last, don't give up, AH is not something the average person can master in a week or a month, or maybe even a year.  It has a steep learning curve, but the rewards are sweet also once you get the hang of it

Hey... if it's above you it can't hurt you.  If it wants to hurt you it will have to come down to you.

Load, few things you can do but they all require discipline, which is one of the hardest things to learn in this game.

Stay under 3k around cvs.  Learn to take off form cvs without the auto takeoff.  Use that rudder and your flaps, you can take off with the cv in full turn and full load out if you know what you're doing.

Breaking your wingtips off, watch your airspeed.  Throttle back on long dives and don't try to pull a tight turn at high speed.  When vulching, again watch your airspeed, pull the plane out of the dive even if you have to miss that prime kill just sitting there on the runway.  He'll be up again when you come around and you will still be alive to get his buddy.

Never do a HO unless you are at a disadvantage.  Allot of newbs will ram you on a HO because they don't know what they are doing.

Just to note a large portion of my deaths are due to a screw up on my part as well.  Get too close to the ack, I've augured a few times, forgot to put the landing gear down when landing or ran into the bellybutton end of someone.

"88 mm CV ack from enemie CV which is 2 sectors away!!!"

- It happens. It sucks. But the problem of automatic systems in the game will result in those things inevitably. I've tried jinking, turning, flying fast, flying slow etc etc.. and it seems nothing really effects the 88mm hits. That happens to everybody, no exceptions. So don't be discouraged about this one.

"Taking off from CVs in the direction of the wind...less drag!!"

- I never check any wind direction during CV take-offs. Only when the CV is directly prior/while/directly after turning the take-off/landing procedure is seriously hampered. Otherwise, as long as the CV is going straight, you can up anything any configuration available. You'll just have to practice this one.

"Lot of Breaking my wingtips in very high G turns. "

- Depends a lot on the plane type, and you're flying habits. Generally, try not to get in a situation where you have to yank on the stick during high speeds. You'll get the hang of it over time.

"Kissing deck while I am capping (cc I vulch....lets help C47s made their work  ) "

- This is effected a lot by frame rates and plane configuration, not to mention skill. Targetting a moving ground target actually  is not so easy - especially when it is moving in a direction of more than 45 degrees angle. Also, I sometimes notice that when you go in really close against a ground vehicle or a plane in a strafing run, the frame rate drops significantly for a moment - regardless of smoke or not - which causes a lot of unexpected deaths.

"Lots of rammings while I am blowing enms up at 200 yards. "

- You don't need to be at 200yards. Just shoot from a longer distance, since that is possible in AH. Don't hesitate to use the advantage of it(unless you are armed with a MK108 or a ShVAK, or a MG-FF)

 "Very few killshooters. "

- If you see many planes chasing one enemy, just ignore it. Your help can always be used elsewhere. If you are in a hot chase against a bogey, and a more maneuverable plane comes along and joins the chase, take a deep breath and think "okay, you can take this one, dork!" and move out. He's probably going to steal your kill anyway.

 "Some CV landings. "

- No royal road in this one. Just practice.

 ...

All in all, take your time. Everybody sucked in those things you described once. Get used to it, practice a bit, and you'll do just fine.
