It's not that hard, and if I can do it, anyone can.  What helped me most was watching Ack-Ack's recordings.  The important thing to pick up right away is that you need to remember is that among fighters, you've got the (arguably) best gun package.  4 50 cals and 1 cannon is nothing to sneeze at on any plane, and they're center-mounted on the p38.  Add to that wonderfully gentle stall characteristics, and you can do some damage.

PERK THE P-38L!!!

I laugh when I hear the perk the La7, N1k2, blah blah blah when the plane that really needs to be perked is the P-38L.  It's a friggin' EZ-mode plane if there ever was one.  It has no engine torque, probably best vertical fighter and one of the best stall fighters in the game, coupled with the awesome fire power of .50s and a 20mm Hispano and the ability to carry enough ordnance to destroy a town or severly pork a field.

If there is a Dweeb's plane in AH, it sure is most definitely the EZ-mode P-38L.  A newbie can fly it blindfolded with both hands behind his back and still kick some arse in the thing.

I think they're going for a more historical representation of the 475th.

Ack-Ack... half the planes in the set will dominate a P-38 1v1 no problem at all.  Three that immediately spring to mind are the Spitfire IX, the N1K2, and the La-7.
