Just say YES to the HO
« on: August 08, 2000, 02:52:00 PM »
If you can't beat'em, join'em. Since I have an open mind, I've decided to give the HO a new lease on life, and see if I'm really missing something.

I'm pledging right now to HO wherever, and whenever, I can for this next tour. I will be driving a Tiffy for the most part, so I ought to be able to get my share of "victories".

I encourage all of you to try to HO any Rook Typhoons you see this tour. I'm going need some cooperation from you guys to make my HO dreams come true.

I think the gist of the last thread is you should use whatever is to your advantage in a situation. I can think of lots of situations where HO is the smart thing to do to accomplish the goal I have in mind- usually to deprive the other guy from accomplishing what he wants to do.

I'll take 4xcannons HO against MG's anytime it presents itself, particularly 4xHispanos.

I've had guys chastize me for doing it, when 3 or 4 kills back they had done almost precisely the same thing. Funny, huh? Bottom line- play the way you want and enjoy, and ignore the comments.

Example- I was having a really tough day once. I was vultched repeatedly by one of the "gods" of the sim- no complaints, I didn't have to do it- this went on for probably half an hour. I finally get off the ground, make a line for the guy (who doesn't want payback?   ) and immediately get sandwiched by a high 51 on 4 O'clock and another on my 8 O'clock, both making their runs. The "god" was in a Spitfire directly ahead of me and coming straight at me. Now, no matter which way I go I am going to get it, that much is obvious. Turning in any direction guarantees the "god" will get me yet again- so I don't turn. I plowed right at him and get the shot first. I then evaded the two mustangs (somehow)

"god": Nice HO

I thought about that (actually, it disappointed me to see that coming from this person). He had no trouble killing me when it was easy for him, but let me get one kill on him... I guess what I am saying is it takes no more skill to vultch than it does to HO, yet we openly condone the vultch, even seek it.

Just relax and play. It's all good.

Dear Kieren,

I've simply had enough of your well-reasoned remarks. Enough of this understanding attitude and rationalism!

Dammit...join the whinefest! Be scathing and critical! Let's have some moans here!

"Relax and play"???? Where did you come up with THAT philosophy?

Keep on keepin' on Kier...somebody has to maintain an even strain around here!

Thanks!

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Torque I think you've been abused by women some time ago. So now everytime you see a plane with a red lipstick on it (which happens to be every red iconed plane) you do everything humanly possible to revenge for your old pain

That's allright though. Once upon the time I'll sneak and replace your precious, sparkling, chrome plated Hispanos with cheap peeshooters and then laugh at the sight of you trying to HO others

Well, as I have said, there are times when HO's are viable and maybe the only solution to getting out of trouble. I have no problems with this philosophy or tactics.

My problem is the co alt, co e merge/high alt, high e merge, or consistent HO's in 1v1's. Rope a dope HO's I have no problem with; when I try a rope a dope, I am actually inviting it myself.

When I fly and meet a co alt or an enemy with a slight advantage, 80% of the time, they will go for the head on. I wish I could say it is because they know they are facing a fighter with poor head on performance, but it is also true when I fly the A8 with 2*30, 2*20 and 2*mg.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my original post, but this is what I was referring to.

A8, A5, 205 or any 109 has just NO HO capability. Any other fighter with 50s or Hispanos will kill you in a HO much before you have any chance to hit it. Remember that those Mg151/20 armed planes are just launching one brick per second.
Actually, HO is a very viable tactic for any US/UK plane against any axis one.
