Eagler, Expertise with x45 needed...

Eagler,

Just picked up a x45 and besides getting shot down 3 times in a row im enjoying then stick and throttle.

question?

I just got my ch pro pedals in and am trying them out, my problem is using the hat keys to control my views...

Some people have said the hats wear out quickly, is it wise to have set to my view keys (Im a freak when it comes to looking around me.. at least 10 times a minute in combat..

Do you think Ill get some months out of it using them at that frequency... or should i do a combo hybrid system of using the view keys at the number pad..  (Note i do have a warranty with Best Buy for 2 years though..)

Thanks for your config, it served as a prototype of my config im using....

Your input on this matter would be appreciated.

My names not Eagler but....
I've had my X45 for about a year and a half now. I've used the same hat for the views since I got it and have had no problems. It did get to feeling a bit loose after a while but still functions normally. (use buttons on the throttle for up & down in association with the view hat)

the buttons and views wear out rather quickly. some have lasted up to almost a year and others, last one I bought in mid June, had the trigger flake out by the end of August.
as you have seen, I have my main hat as an 8way, cept the front 45 views are not used as I have them on the oval hat (L/R) on the throttle - easier for me to get those views without the hat jumpin around. originally set that way when one of the views died on me a couple of sticks ago. I also have a default up button which used in conjunction with the hat views gives u the 45 up views.

the other issue with this stick is the stiffness and stickiness of the jstick movements. Had one that I had to graphite to get to work well. Found it pays to open a few boxes in the store and get a smooth one from the start. I guess saiteks QA doesn't check that before they ship them out the door..

as for replacement plans, I found CompUSA to be better as it is in store whereas BestBuy was a delay as you had to get them to mail you a RMA then ship your stick off and wait for the credit coupon before you could walk in and get another. maybe changed now, that was around 2 years ago. I just walk into CompUSA , give them another $10 for another 12 month replacement plan and grab a new stick. Up and flyin in less than an hour (close store)

as for stick scaling, my settings are all maxed to the top for everything cept the two (deadpan and the other ) which are flat on the bottom.
hope this helps

Hey Eagler, for the stiffness I read on some forum (coulda been here, don't remember) that if you use some plastic zip ties to compress the coils of the spring it helps reduce the stiffness. Did it to mine and made for more fluid movement. You really only need 2-3 ties to do it, just slide them away from one another until you get the desired feel.
