VxD error.
« on: August 21, 2003, 04:35:52 PM »
Getting a Fatal Exception error every time I try and use my CD burner with Nero.  Burner will work with EasyCD but up until last week it worked fine with Nero.  I had a system crash that took out my registry, I had a backup of the registry that did include Nero entries (with no changes) but I'm at a loss.  Also, this seems to have started after I installed a Quicktime ActiveX viewer net plug-in.

The error message is:

Fatal Exception 0E at 0028:C003CB32  VXD IOS(01) + 0000146E

I have reinstalled Windows (over the top of the old install), Dx9.0, video drivers and Nero without success.  Nero works fine until you hit the burn button, then it hangs for a few seconds before the BSOD.  :(

Further symptom:  After the crash occurs, the drives no longer recognise CDs when they are inserted.

My system specs are:

Win98SE + Dx9.0
733MHz P3 + 192 MB SDRAM
SB Live!
GeForce 2 MX with 30.82 drivers
Sony CDRW 16x

Any suggestions on a fix would be appreciated.

One of your .VXD device driver files is corrupted.  If you can find out which one, you might be able to replace it with a known good one.

(You don't have both Adaptec Easy CD creator AND Nero loaded at the same time do you?  According to Nero's site, that will not work.)
