Fantasy Football

I had a buddy draft me a team in a league of buddies I haven't been around alot lately.

Never was a 'stat' guy in football. No previous fantasy football experience.

Actually having a couple of days of free computer time I went and looked at the team and did this:

1. Picked up C. Buckhalter - HB - PHI (he was a free agent).
2. Dropped B. Johnson - QB - TB and picked up K. Holcomb - QB - CLE (he was a free agent too).

If you are a fantasy football badass, what do you think?

If you aren't a fantasy football badass and are a mind-controlled rabid TB fan - Johnson is better in real life. According to the fantasty football 'data sheet' I pulled up online he sucks as a QB in fantasy football.

I would need to first look at your whole roster. Can you post it for me?

Well, you might lose some points  for the BJ drop, because he starts and Kelly Holcomb might not (he might play behind Tim Reclining Couch).

Brady, Tom QB NE
Lewis, Jamal RB BAL
Portis, Clinton RB DEN
Gardner, Rod WR WAS
Jackson, Darrell WR SEA
Robinson, Koren WR SEA
Vanderjagt, Mike K IND
Raiders, DST OAK
Holcomb, Kelly QB CLE
Buckhalter, Correll RB PHI
Green, William RB CLE
Ferguson, Robert WR GB
Pinkston, Todd WR PHI
Streets, Tai WR SF
Bills, DST BUF

You have to start 2 RB, 3 WR/TE, QB, D/ST.

I gave him a draft list after looking at the FFL rank page for about 10 min. I'm actually surprised I got as many players as I wanted on the list. I chose the SEA WRs because of 'ease of schedule' for WRs from SEA. I took Streets because even those he's a flami-fa-er-49er he's the #2 WR opposite Owens.

I took the Raiders D because they are the only real football team left in the world. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY YYYYYYYDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHS.

I did the add/drop after Holcomb was announced as starting QB for CLE.

I forgot to mention that you start a K (duh). I know I only have one. When 'bi-week' comes up I'm going to drop whoever is sucking for a week and pick up a 'vanilla' K.

I would have definitely kept johnson. You have brady as starter so your qb position is great. Picking up holcomb was a good choice. I would have left buckhalter on free agency. If you didnt want johnson it would have been a good idea to trade him for another RB or WR. You wouldnt have gotten top notch player but you would have gotten a solid player. Then if you still wanted buckhalter you could have gotten him. WR is you weak spot. I dont see SEA having a good enough passing game to have both of their receivers so i would just keep robinson. Pinkston is inconsistent. Tai well he is in the line up with TO. Coles is faster than Rod but rod is bigger and stronger so its hard to tell who the #1 receiver will be in WAS.

Just my view....

Don't forget I asked for the advice - your input is much appreciated.

I never knew much about the SEA passing game, but the FFL writeup mentioned that they averaged 470 or so yards a game in offense for the last 4 games of last season. So I figured they are passing more than most.

Dropping Johnson was tough (and I just checked - no one has scooped him up yet), but I know that the Browns are going to chuck the ball alot. So from a FFL standpoint, I thought that Holcomb would generate more FFL points even though Johnson is a way better QB in real life.

What receiver would you try to trade Johnson for?

There are a couple who might still be available. Depends on the size of your league, which also may be the reason johnson is still a free agent. David Patten I believe is going to be a huge sleeper. But if you are in a smaller say 10 team league then the moves you made wont hurt you.

I would have kept Brad Johnson.  He finished strong with Tampa Bay as they started to realize they could pass for touch downs.  Holcomb is in a fight with Tim Couch for the starting position at Cleveland.

P.S.  Do not get rid of Clinton Portis no matter what people offer in trade.

Update:

Got B. Johnson (QB) back by dropping BUF D/ST.

Picked up V. Testaverde (QB) by dropping R. Ferguson (WR).

I'm going to look at my 4 (!) QBs for the first couple of games. I think Holcomb could really go berserk in terms of passing yds.

And Holcomb was named the starter for CLE about 2 weeks ago by CLE coach.

Joey Harrington and his receiver Charles Rogers are good sleeper picks.

Wulfie., Buckhalter was a good pick up... til Staley reported.  Hoprefully they will trade Staley... otherwise Buckhalter may see spot duty.  GL in your league!

The Bucs are looking at picking up Andre Rison (sp?) as a new WR, which would give them Keyshawn Johnson, Keenan McCardell, and Andre as a good starting 3.  Joe Jerevicious would most likely be moved down to 4th WR.  If that happens, look for Jon Gruden via Brad Johnson to air it out alot.  The Bucs have no real backup QB, unlike the Holcomb/Couch situation.
