This reminds me of a funny and true story.
We had a collie when I was a kid. This dog loved to get up onto the patio planters and dig. One day my Dad (an electrical engineer) set up this large metal plate at the entrance to the patio, and hooked some wires to it. He told us all that he was going to keep the dog from ever digging again.
My mother was shocked, and asked Dad if the dog was going to be hurt. "No" Dad explained. "I've stepped down the amperage through ...yada yada.... the dog will be fine."
So he hooks it up, the dog steps onto the plate and ....
NEVER returned to the patio again. That collie even jumped 3 feet over all metal thresholds in the house.
Well fast forward to about 10 years ago. I had a female lab that loved digging in the flowers. I remembered my Dad's device and thought I could adapt it to a wire in front of the flower beds.
So I call Dad to ask him how he stepped down the amperage to make it safe for the dog.
He laughed for a long time before he fessed up. "I just ran a straight 110 line to the plate. If the dog died the dog died."
