Bought a 30 Pak Memorex MUSIC CD-R stack at wally world on sale. Didn't look at the "Music" part, just needed some disks to back up pictures and patches.

It says they are 700MB, 80 Minute, 40X Speed. Whats the diffrence?

Music cr's i come across over here in the UK are generally black media
And 75% of em were doa lol

I think the main diff is actual media type (layer film) is supposed to be better for sound data etc

I had no luck using traxdata (think it was called) cdr's for anything other than music

as i say even then 75% were fubar out of the wrapper

Never touched music cdr's since

My friend said they have a better protection layer as if they will be used to play music alot and get thrown around. I dismiss that though, lol. Could be just a marketing tool, I dunno. ?

Marketing at its finest. Digital data is digital data. The CD has no clue what is on it.

It's a scam. Music CD-R == Normal CD-R

Yeah, I remember reading that music CD-Rs are simply regular CD-Rs that are overpriced. I think the article said something about the extra cost being used to offset the piracy that the CD-Rs were "probably" going to be used for.

Yep, just regular old CDRs in different packaging with retarded price tags...I'm pretty sure they're marketed to be used in home stereo CD burners.

At least here they cost more because part of the price goes to Gramex and Teosto. Earlier the CD-writers you could buy for your stereo rack in living room couldn't burn data-CDRs but they needed Music-CDRs to work.
Of course you could put a music-CDR in, put the writer on pause, take a music-cdr away from the burner and put ordinary data-CDR in... Or buy a small circuit and solder it in to pass the test

they are CD's which you can not burn anything an "artist" has put out after 1979 as it does not fall into the "music" category

What are gramex and teosto?

Gramex and Teosto are our equivalents for American RIAA; for example if you own a restaurant and play recordings there you need to pay a small fee for Gramex which again gives it to the song writers, bands and performers.
They also get their percentages from every media you can use to record music: Music-CDRs, Minidisks, different cassettes etc..
They don't get any money from data-CDRs thought
