night and gamma settings ?
« on: September 01, 2003, 11:12:05 AM »
well for those of us that cant set gamma properly because using tft/flatscreens and  for others reasons cant ,  it get really  as dark that it should be.
But it is  very much a reward too the people that can  set gamma and make planes, gv`s  etc... visible.

this is  stupid and sucks,  but for me the only solution is to log off.

since the gamma (cheat) is possible why have night at all, what about just having the nice times when sun goes down and up and then back to daytime again ?

Your crying because other people are doing something you cant do.  Its like me comming on the bbs and crying that the other players are setting up there joysticks to get better control and i cant, so i cry about it and want other people who can setup there stick to stop so i feel better.

i have to go to work, or should i cry becuse there are people who dont work?

Does your monitor have a control for gamma?  Guessing that it doesn't.  Oh well hmmm...
It's been said we have three brains, one cobbled on top of the next. The stem is first, the reptilian brain; then the mammalian cerebellum; finally the over developed cerebral cortex.  They don't work together in awfully good harmony - hence ax murders, mobs, and socialism.

ok teaspoon needed for you :) what i ment is that if night dont works (meaning it get just as visible as daytime for 90 % of the players that can adjust gamma)
what is the reason for having it ??

But thank you again chaos, for another impressive intelligent answer from you :D

Use  this

http://www.colorific.com/d1.htm

I use it always as my screen (or something on my std set up) is porked so its on for day or night and any other program  I run.

The night sky is still black and visibility heavily impaired...........iconless dots are very hard to see (almost impossible) but you can makeout ground features in a shady sort of way.

It is a gamma correction program and some of the advertising blurb does give the impression of a cheaters charter. But you are firced during set up to find a gama balance with your brigthness and contrast setting.....hence daytime looks like day time (not some wishy washy version of it) but you have some depth of vision at night.

it claims to be suitable for flat screens ........... but needs a RAMDAC enabled graphics card

We shouldn't HAVE to adjust gamma...it is stupid.

People here argue the realism issues and then defend the use of gamma correction.  Hypocracy in its highest form.

What is clear is that folk have a wide range of video and monitor settings............. as well as a wide range of video and monitor hardware...........not to mention the back ground lighting of what ever room they are in.

Walk round any of the PC's at an AH convention and you will see this most clearly during night flying.................

Night is dumb if  its actually impossible to play the game........ so there must be some setting that  allows some depth of vision without making it some form of wishy washy day effect.

Advising settings is a waste of time because of our differring hardwares.............and differring settings...........

What would be neat is a series of (in game) test cards that allow us to set stuff up as HTC would reccommend.  I reckon there should be bars for colour, (RGB), brightness, contrast and even if possible gamma (depth of vision at night). How I do not know...........it would just be neat.
