Very nice!

I just recently bought  Badger brush and compressor (love eBay!). And I'm looking forward to trying my hand at models again soon - after a couple of projects I needd to finish before Christmas. But seeing your 51 makes me want to go out and get myself a 47D and start it tonight :)

Looks like you used Testor's Chrome as the base paint?  Nice job on doing the anti-glare painting.  Excellent work on the decals - no ghosting.  What did you use for the heat shield around the exhaust stacks?  Hand-brushed silver?

Thanks guys

Gofaster I used Model Masters Metalizers for the finish. I first polished the bare plastic, then layed down some fine coats of buffing aluminum metalizer.

I then painted other panels with different shades of metalizer, masking the panels with wetted wrapping tissue. The heat shields are titanuim metalizer and everything on the model is airbrushed except for the front canopy .

I nearly destroyed this model by painting it over 3 times.....while removing the paint the last time,  I used a thinner that attacked the plastic and broke the wings off and pitted the plastic.

I can say this was a learning experience for me, as it is my first model with a natural metal finish.

I'm lazy.  I usually just use the spraycan of Testor's Chrome over all silver parts, then hand-brush the details and variances in the panels with Silver, or Aluminum, or Steel, and maybe some black wash on the landing gear joints to simulate grease and bring out the details in the shocks.   I mostly build 1/72 so I can get away with this method a bit better on the smaller kit than I could on a larger 1/48 kit.

Castrol Super Clean is great for removing paint from plastic without damaging the plastic.  ;)

Yours looks much better than mine.  I suck worse than I thought.  I need to work on my patience.

Martlet a lot of the thing is to get a nice airbrush, second get a good kit,  the other is patience like you said.

I bought 2 P-51  kits at the same time, one Tamiya, the other a Hasegawa P-51 ( because the store had only 1 Tamiya). I'm making the Hasegawa now, probably gonna give it to Steve with our squad logo on it ( Rat Bastards Of America, when we get a logo)

I have to say that the Hasegawa is a few notches down in quality  compaired to the Tamiya. In fact Tamiya kits are consistantly better than any other IMO.

The Hasegawa version has flash mold marks all over the plastic, shallow gear bays and less surface detail.

Steve, if I can make this kit good enough, I'm coming over to your house with it :)

westy, AKWeav, Ramzey thanks

Ramzey you mean for the decals? I use micro set for most and micro sol for the really hard one's that have hard curves and bends.

Nice P-51. Well done NUKE.  I would say the only thing it needs now is some exhaust smoke stains after teh exhaust stack. Every warbird should have some smoke stains.
