Beta question

Hi,

What does a "beta" really mean in AH2 i.e. will everyone be able to test it or just a few selected?

Cheers

i believe its an "Open" beta, which means all paying customers will be flying it...

Not sure if the current AH will dissappear the minute AH2 goes beta or not...

There probably already is a "closed" beta running already...
(limited to a few ppl who cannot say a word...)

As soon as the beta comes out, it will replace the existing AH.

Are you sure about that Ack-Ack?   There are probably a number of people who are paying for a production-quality sim (AH) and would not want it suddenly taken away to pay for a beta-quality sim (AH2 beta).    Especially those folks who are on borderline systems who can't upgrade right away, or those who are just unwilling to pay to be a beta tester of software.   They might prefer to continue paying and playing AH1 until AH2 is out of beta test and ready to go to paid production.

Just seems like an unusual idea to me to force paying customers to upgrade through a beta version, you know?

I am sure they would prefer to have a beta version now, which hundreds of players can help to test than a fully-tested, finished version in (at least) a year's time?  Once AH2 is released and players report bugs, the patches will flow fast.... probably within hours (or even minutes!) rather than days.  :)

I would expect that a new server or arena would be setup for the beta.

People who want to continue with the existing, stable AH could do so while the many of us who wish to test the beta could do that.

I am still surprise of the very low amount of informatio, especially pictures, that has found its way out especially after the simhq.com article.

I agree with Zipper9.    Characterizing the situation as impatient children waiting for Christmas presents from their parents is one way to look at it I suppose, but for most of us we are adult paying customers, waiting for a company to release its new product line.    And really we have had not much information about that new product line's progress, status, or features considering how long its been in development.

You could never accuse HTC of overhyping the next version, for sure!   But I think they kinda went off the deep end in the other direction.    The customers may not have been in the dark for almost a year, but we've sure been in a very dimly lit room.
