...explains why they hate the U.S.

From http://www.nypost.com/postopinion/opedcolumnists/4879.htm ...

"It is not the American war machine that should be of the utmost concern to Muslims. What threatens the future of Islam, in fact its very survival, is American democracy." This is the message of a new book, just published by al Qaeda in several Arab countries.

The author of "The Future of Iraq and The Arabian Peninsula After The Fall of Baghdad" is Yussuf al-Ayyeri, one of Osama bin Laden's closest associates since the early '90s. A Saudi citizen also known by the nom de guerre Abu Muhammad, he was killed in a gun battle with security forces in Riyadh last June. . . .

What Al-Ayyeri sees now is a "clean battlefield" in which Islam faces a new form of unbelief. This, he labels "secularist democracy." This threat is "far more dangerous to Islam" than all its predecessors combined. The reasons, he explains in a whole chapter, must be sought in democracy's "seductive capacities."

This form of "unbelief" persuades the people that they are in charge of their destiny and that, using their collective reasoning, they can shape policies and pass laws as they see fit. That leads them into ignoring the "unalterable laws" promulgated by God for the whole of mankind, and codified in the Islamic shariah (jurisprudence) until the end of time.

The goal of democracy, according to Al-Ayyeri, is to "make Muslims love this world, forget the next world and abandon jihad." If established in any Muslim country for a reasonably long time, democracy could lead to economic prosperity, which, in turn, would make Muslims "reluctant to die in martyrdom" in defense of their faith.

He says that it is vital to prevent any normalization and stabilization in Iraq. Muslim militants should make sure that the United States does not succeed in holding elections in Iraq and creating a democratic government. "If democracy comes to Iraq, the next target [for democratization] would be the whole of the Muslim world," Al-Ayyeri writes.

I thought they've been altering the 'unalterable' laws for hundreds of years already...
...or whats up with all the different groups of muslims, who have altered the godly laws differently from the others?

I will never understand a people whos greatest goal in life seems to be to kill as many people as you can while blowing yourself to bits. Islam scares the crap out of me. I will never forget the muslin center I saw on the news in England. A bunch of Muslim men with thier faces covered in the bandana things they wear. Carrying signs that had a picture of the planet painted red with a big Islamic flag planted in it. With the inscription that read Islam will dominate the world.

Thats like saying the christians are idiots, considering how they weren't not too long ago doing crusades and turning pagans into faith, so they would get to heaven after they die
(and they still did that in the early parts of 20th century :p)

I wouldn't say all muslims are idiots.. although nowadays I don't see a reason to have as strong faith in god as to pray every day n+1 times or to fight in god's name, thats just so medieval..

There's something interesting to be read into this from a 'recruiting analysis' standpoint.

Bin-Laden's primary 'motive' as far back as when he was battling the Russians in Afghanistan has been that the presence of U.S. forces in Saudi Arabia is a defilation of the Muslim 'holy lands'. This was a prominent part of their 'pitch' when recruiting youths after the fall of the ATF.

Now, after Iraq - with the level of U.S. forces in Saudi rapidly dropping - all of a sudden the primary reason that the U.S. is the mortal enemy of Al-Qaeda (and by their own reckoning, Islam in general) has changed. Note the militaristic 'recruitment' slant to the change as well - 'a democracy will tempt you away from your sacred duty of jihad/martyrdom/etc.'.

Oh yeah.. just thought of something ridiculous.

Think of the 'mujahadeen' fighters in Iraq, from the other countries, they're attacking some things like water pipes, oil pipes....  which without the Iraqis are not doing well...
How exactly does that serve the good of Iraqis or Islam overall?

....and once they rid the evil godless invaders, they turn their overleft weaponry at each others, way to go the fighters of a holy war who fights for the best of Islam!
(ie. Afganistan after russians)
