Someone shoot my maint. chief
« on: September 06, 2003, 12:01:28 AM »
For the heck of it, I decided to see how long I can go without dying in the MA (and still managing to bag some kills ... I mean landing them ... RTB .. no ditching, bailing) .... in the F4U (generally the "dash 1" but others if need be).

I was doing ok ... until my pc shot me down. I was getting some sporadic beacons so I figured I'd relog and reboot the system. Then the arena wouldn't let me log on for about 10 or 15 minutes. When I finally log back on, I locate my squadmate who stayed online waiting and go to A9 to up. I spool up the engine then notice I have no rudder input. So I throttle back .... throttle stays full bore. At this point I'm a tad bit confused and kinda miffed. I manage to use auto controls to up and I manage to raise my gear (keyboard controls) and I intended to keep her on auto and check settings .. but auto keeps disengaging ... besides ... the mouse stops working when I pull up the lapboard.

Finally ... out of frustraton ... I alt-f4.

I then log back on to try again. In the tower ... the lapboard still freezes the mouse. I tell Sloppy I need to log and fix things. I open my settings to check my game controllers ... and the Saitek isn't listed ... nothing is. I go to the drop-down menu .. it's gone. The pc completely got rid of the Saitek drivers when I rebooted the machine.

Word to the wise: Always check to see if your settings/game controllers are what they're supposed to be when you reboot your machine.

I checked score and stats. The alt-f4 counted as a death. Well - it was sweet while it lasted ... 19 kills and no deaths up until my plane was sabotaged by the maint. crew.

Guess I can relax now. lol :D
