PC,
that is an unfair analogy. The Axis powers lost the war, of course the Axis planes were no longer produced after 1945. Except for the Bf109 which was manufactured in Spain until 1956, that is a 21 year production run. Of course it includes all of WWII (unlike the F4U's production run) which saw unprecedented advancement of aeronuatical engineering, yet it remained a capable fighter.
Now I'm no LW fan, but I just don't like unfair comparrisons used to justify something that is personal taste in the end. So

to PC.
The only Allied combat aircraft that was produced before the war and was still being produced after the war was the Spitfire. The first production Spitfire MkI was produced in 1938 and the last production Seafire F.47 was produced in 1949. That is an 11 year run that, unlike the F4U (which only had a 10 year run from 1942 to 1952), includes all of WWII. Like the Bf109, the Spitfire was still a capable fighter when it ended production, despit being designed in the 1930's.

to PC again.
