1946 ARENA?
« on: August 16, 2001, 07:13:00 PM »
Im not comfortable with freakshows in the MA or the CT, so how about HTC sets up a "1946" Arena in which we could get all the neat fantasy planes that unfortunatly missed action in WW2, saw completly insignificant use in WW2, or were on the drawing board or in prototype stage by the end.

This way we could get to play with all the interesting but irrelevant planes like:

P51H
F8F
F7F
He162
Ho229
MB5
SpitXXI
Ta152C
Vampire
Upgraded Me262
Ta183
Upgraded Meteors
La9/11
Yak3U (M82 engine 440+mph 5800fpm climb 2 B-20 20mm)
F2G
That USA pusher bomber thing.
P80
J7W Shinden (The Japanese canard pusher prop and jet version very fast and 4 30mm cannon)

Pretty much whatever else anyone could REASONABLY suggest.

This plane set is big enough to support an arena all by itself and I would suggest no current MA planes except maybe the standard Me262, Tempest, Arado, and Ta152H be allowed in the "1946" arena.

What do you all think?

I'd rather not see HTC put effort into that.

I'd much, much rather see a 1943 arena. I'd be quite happy if HTC focused on the aircraft available and in common use in 1943.  1943 offers a huge variety of aircraft that are competitive, more than any other year, and it represents the last year that the war was in doubt.

BTW GRUNHERTZ, The British abandoned the Roman numerals once they got to 20.  So the Spit you're talking about above would be the "Spitfire F.21".

Im not asking for it now, im just putting out the idea as a reasonable solution to our interest in irrelevant late war/post war and other fantasy types while avoiding the MA or CT becoming a freakshow.

Wouldnt we all love o see these interesting types done by HTC?

Add to my first list.

Tempest II
Fury
A7M Reppu
Kikka
Me263
Me163C
MeP1101
Spit Mk22/24 even
Skyraider
F4U5

Basically anyhing before the F86/Mig 15.

Just an idea for a fantasy 1946 Arena that would be a lot of fun.

I think I'd rather go the other direction.   :)
Maybe we can do that stuff in a few years..... I don't know tho.

I like it!  Just spare us the 'Early Years' that everyone in WB's seems to be so fond of.

It gets to be a bit of a pill when someone makes a good post that is only a wishlist and a suggestion ,not a demand or ultimatumn, makes people feel they need to attack back.

I think just about everyone here wants to see the early war planes but for some it's nice to imagine a What If arena too.

Sounds like fun.  The thing I like about this is that all the rules aren't known, the performance and tactics aren't already nailed down.  We'd have to come up with our own tactics, and learn the planes, instead of just reading what other pilots have already done.  Who knows what it would be like to fly the p-51H against a J7W?  Also, since with most of those planes there is less data on performance available, there is less deviation in the documentation  :)  Less exceptions.  Less confusion for the aircraft modelers.  As long as the performance seems reasonable, we could all just be happy with it and enjoy the sim!

Grun, I like the idea and am looking forward to a game that is going to be released in the not so far future based on 46 designs.  If all else you can always make belief that spit 9 is really a 14 just with more drag.

I like it -- ultimate props and early jets.  History or Discovery channel had program the other night called Luftwaffe 1946 about what might have happened.  AH 1946 could be the Reno air races with teeth -- but where would we get the fighter aces to quote in the inevitable debates about which planes were accurately or inaccurately modeled?

B-35??  B-36??  Both were pushers.  B-35 was a great looking and operating plane.  B-36 looked like crap.  (I got a chance to look inside one--I saw LOTS of uninsulated wires around the fuselage skin--one hit there, and BOOM!).
