Hiya KDF. Hate to hear of this.

I can't help much on your PC gear (I'm a relic that knows more about TNT2 andr Voodoo I tricks than new stuff)  but just to be sure you included everything folks may need to know are you using a firewall or router per chance?

Weston..... E-mail me. TK wants you at his NG!!

Anyhoo....I am running a cable connection thru a Linksys router at the moment , but that never had any consequence before with any other machine. It has it`s own firewall , but I presently am not in concert with a firewall proggie.

But what is really strange to me , is that I noticed that my Video card has no direct 3D support , I thought it used to.

Sigh>

"Weston..... E-mail me. TK wants you at his NG!! "

Will do!   I have your email at home.  Lost TK's and his server addy a long time ago....  (I got OP:FP and Invasion'44 but no one to play with!  :)  )

As for the Linksys you may need to "open" the ports as per Skuzzy's post.

Do a search on Linksys or BESFR41 for exact specifics as posted by a player some months ago. While it may not cure your problem it could help.  I had connections problems that cleared up when I did that

Switch to the 30.82 NVidia drivers.  Also, did you load the INF files for the system when you installed the OS?  They would have come with the motherboard.

Thank-ewe Skuzzy.

That worked. I wonder why the 30.82 drivers work , but not the new. My card was the greatest last year .:D

I will add there is a slightly later driver for the realtek onboad sound (may be only for Win98 as this is what I use. Its 5100 rather than 5036 - mine got found and loaded by windows update and it works much better and stops DirectX diagnostics whingeing about no hardware buffers) but it is also available on realtek's site.

BTW run directX diagnostics and turn down the acceleration in DirectX sound one notch left -it helps with those annoying occasional random boots  (also I use 30.82 on my Nvidia card, it seems the most reliable for AH)

Thanks Spiff...the 5300 is out , least that is what I was able to find on that web-site. I have learned much messin with this build......Dual channel DDR 400 rocks , Newer Nvidia drivers blow , you CAN use 1 gig of memory on Win98se with a "Vcache" hack , and friends come out of the woodwork when your in trouble.:D

Thanks all.  I`ll prolly be back.
