Was wondering if the upgrade will include AI drones to fight so that the new guys (me) can learn to angle shoot on a moving target other than one flying in cirles not evading or shooting back.
I think it would increase subscriptions because its hard to learn online and many give up.

i would like that idea too, the trainers in AH are great but to get the actual combat training etc... you need somethin that can shoot back manuver and kill you, but with a skill level low enough that you have a chance, maybe if they did this you could go to setting click AI drones click skill level then it would say like rookie, veteran, ace etc.... good idea dunno if they will do it though

I have gone against N00B's in Planes like the 109 and dogfight them in my Lone B17 and Win. Only to check the roster for a name I hadn't seen before to find he had logged, and never seen the handle again.

Situtions like this and others where N00B's have had the misfortune of running into really hot pilots their first hops out.

Give ppl a chance to fly offline and get the feel for thier ac and at what speeds they compress in actual combat etc. etc. etc.

The code for the AI could likely double the size of the current AH download.....  (not to mention the increase in CPU load)

And once complete...  how many would be complaining that the AI isn't "realistic"...

No AI can match a real player, training against AI prepares you for... fighting AI and nothing more.

You have unlimited lives, train against who you are gonna play...

learning different types of angles, shots just having something shooting at you helps prepare you more for a real pilot then just going out and free balling it. Of course its not gonna be close to a real person but alot better than going out and getting killed everytime you try to up and just quitting the game because its to hard. I dont think they should be in the next download not even the next 5, i mean sometime during the games history, that could be in the next year, 3 years however long

Whats stopping you from doing that now?

Also AI can never prepare someone for the challange of a real person, unless it cheats like il-2 does....which is lame.

Listening to some of your post makes me wonder if old players scared newbies might learn something and they would get less newbie kills to add to thier egos. Realistically AI is good practice for newbies for learning how to fly and shoot. At least it would be a little bit of a start in the learning curve. These programmers came from Warbirds which has AI so you would think they at least add something. Aces High has knocked out most of thier competition so I guess for now unless some other game comes along we not gonna get much added.

Having a formal training program would be a better solution than more advanced AI drones.

I think the organized training thing would probably be better, for all the reasons already stated.

I think AI drones help in training...........


I had one off line AW mission set up where a drone went thru a wide range of manouvers and all i had to do was stay on its 6...........

If you set the way points to force the drone to do stuff out side the AC envelope (climb, turn, dive etc) then AI took over and staying with it became a challange that taught me where the edges were when I tried to stay on its 6 (without gaming the lesson).

I also had some combats set up in dissimilar aircraft that did much the same..............hence pitch your aircraft in a turn fight against one with better turning ability and you learn to control the edge better.............

The beauty of the off line training AI is that you learn basic manouvers and throttle control quicker............also you can "goto" the combat part of the mission immediately rather than fly for 5/10 mins just to find that the aspect you wanted to improve upon is not tested.

AW AI did nothing to help when against knowledgable bnz'ers tho.

AW AI Ponies always ran away eventually...........

Does it actually cheat in Il-2?  I always wondered about that.  How does it cheat?

Only recently, probably a large recently, did rookie pilots start fighting against other aircraft in things like Top Gun school or Red Flag stuff. None of that existed in WW2 and lots of the pilots in WW2 died from their nOObness. The lack of AI drones does kind of simulate that. All you had in WW2 were training targets towed behind a brave soul in a real plane.
Yes the guys that made AH came from WB and that had AI. Maybe they figured it wasn't worth it to include it in their next best effort to make a 'THE' game and coding requirements possibly were involved.
And if a nOOb came across this situatiuon...  "dogfight them in my Lone B17 and Win" maybe they thought this game wasn't as realistic as it was supposed to be.
Then again, maybe I need my 2nd cup of coffee and I'm not thinking correctly. That happens a lot with me.

Rear aircraft radar that picks you up as soon as you get within effective firing range.
Somehow they know how to counter nearly ever manouver.
Buff guns that snipe vital components off my plane.
Yet to see the AI shreck up and smash into the ground.

At least thats the way it looks to me.

I'm refering to enemy aircraft of cause, friendlies are a hole different story...
