Think my new ViewSonic monitor died.. questions inside
« on: September 15, 2003, 12:35:26 AM »
So I'm sitting here at my pc and the screen starts to flicker with a blue hue.. then after a few minutes the blue hue stuck. I de-gaused the monitor and swapped the power cables, still blue. Is this what a montior looks like when it dies?

This is a real pain. Its the E220 model. Darn thing is huge. Will cost me alot to ship back.

It could be the card.  My TNT2 was doing something similar a long time ago.  Got a GF2 and the prob went away.

So, before you send the monitor back, check it out with a different card.

Check the 15-pin connector.  Make sure none of the pins are pushed back into the cable...if they are, you can pull them out with a needle nose - or better yet replace the cable if it isn't permanantly attached to the monitor.

So you can still see everything but it's got a blue tint?  If this is correct then yes most likely the monitor is going out.  I had a Pionex 17 inch that did the exact same thing to me.

There's adjustments inside that you can tweek to get rid of the tint for the time being.  But it will keep getting worse as time passes till you can't adjust it anymore.  I didn't wanna deal with it so I dumped it and got me a Sony Trinitron monitor.

This is weird. I've had the monitor on all day and I haven't see the blue hue at all. Maybe my card was hot.. who knows I will call support if it happens again.

You didn't have any magnetized items near the monitor by chance did ya?  This probably isn't the case cause you'd be able to see a definitive wave shape going through the monitors screen.  It'll change colors too but typically you will see multiple colors.  And you'd clearly see some distortion in the screens display also.

Once my old Pionex started the blue tint it went till it died.  I had gave it to a friend for his kids pc.  Who knows though...Technology ....sheeeesh....

Yeah no speakers or magnets near the monitor.... gotta be heat or a defective monitor.

I hope it stays well for you.  Last month my Viewsonic P225f took a dump, flying AH the display went to about 2" in height then a godawfull smell hit me in the face. Yanked the power but it still had a nice plume of smoke hovering over the back. And your right it cost an arm to send it back ($90 shipping and a new box)

The nice part was I had a new one back in 10 days.

You know.. after I posted my last comment, the screen flickered and went blue for a minute then returned normal. I really don't want to RMA this huge monitor , the cost to ship is gonna kill me.

Do what I do with my nearly 5 year old DELL monitor. Knock the crap outta the thing when that happens. I have been putting off buying a new monitor for nearly 2 years by beating it when it starts changing colors on me. It works well and keeps on going.

Saw that happen to a monitor at work. Twice actually the first one just melted down. The 2nd one it was raining and the roof spung a leak right over it man did the sparks fly.
