Worlds Coolest Wife
« on: September 16, 2003, 08:04:19 PM »
For the last two and half years my wife has moderately tolerated my addiction to this game and has had to put up with my outbursts at the computer and listen to me yell "check six"  and "watch that spit" and "get this La7 off my arse".

Well today is my birthday and yesterday my wife gave me my birthday present.  OF course I had to guess first, so she gives me some clues

1.  You have to call and get an appointment
2.  I'm going to like it but she's probably not going to like it
3.  Its something you've always wanted to do
4.  You pay by the hour.

I'm thinking wow she got me a hooker for my birthday??

Nope....

An Introductory Flight Lesson at the flight School in San Marcos.

I'm still grinning from ear to ear,  even after I went to website I and I found out they use a Cessna 152 for the training flight
( I had visions of  a T-6 Texan actually)

Now I just need to pick a weekend for my flight (I wonder what the weather will be like this weekend)

Wave at me when you fly over, and be sure that you return the favor to your most excellent mate.

The seating in a C152 is like the alliance between Tony Blair and George Bush - shoulder to shoulder. ;)

If I'm not mistaken, the first lesson is ground school.

no, the first lesson, or intro flight, is a lot of fun, you get to do most of the flying without the instructor yelling at ya' :)

Ah the 152...that's a pretty cozy bird.  Did 5 or 6 hours in that, 172 for the rest.  I have some Piper Tomahawk time as well...fun plane.

Enjoy the first flight.  Its not a cheap hobby...but its a lot of fun!  I've had my PPL since 1992 and its the best thing I ever did :)

Lizard, I plan to return the favor, just not sure how to top it, maybe a trip to the massage clinic like they have at Barton Creek Mall.

Scarey thought Udet, but I think she does,  I found the website for the flight school at San Marcos and started reading all the requirments and classes and the number of hours I need, and the costs.   She sat right there with me telling me to sign up, do a little bit at a time and in a couple of years I'd have my PPL.   This particular school charges $40 an hour for flight instruction and I think $35 an hour for ground school.

I've wanted to be a pilot since I was 12, but there was always an excuse, not enough time, busy with tech school, kids (= no money), no airports nearby.  Now 31 years later I just might do it.
Just got to get past this fear of flying problem

I'm kinda over the disappointment of the 152, a planes a plane when the ride is free and you get to fly it.  so not complaining about that anymore,  still a T-6 would have been nice:D

And yes I have one hell of a wife and I plan to keep her for awhile longer:D

I like the 152. I guess cause I've done most of my flying in it. I got to fly a 172SP for my first dual cross country and I didn't like it: too much power:p

I did my first hour in 1997 and never went back. At $120 an hour (Back then) who could afford it. Wife, Morgage, kids...no time, no money now, but I plan to go back.

Question:

For those with their PPLs...what do you do with it? I mean do you travel in a private plane or just go sightseeing?

Do you fly to places you can't get to with a commerical jet? Do you rent a plane by the day? Any fear about taking loved ones up with you?

All questions I need to answer for myself before I continue my education.
