another new gun..
« on: September 17, 2003, 09:04:53 AM »
well... my son just gave me his tanfoglio "witness"compact carry in .45acp.  He couldn't get it to feed at all.   jammed every clip.   the gun is the "Italian lego" of pistols... it is a CZ 75 clone.   the whole slide, recoil spring, barrel and all comes off and can be switched out for another top end and magazine of another caliber in litereally... seconds.   I bought a 22 rimfire top end conversion for it.

these guns are very popular in europe with it's draconian handgun laws... one frame can be 6 or seven guns from a .22 to a 10mm or .40 on up to a .45.... they are winning a lot of matches in europe and some here.

Oh... fixed the jamming problem... the slide stop projected too far into the chamber area and cought the rim of the .45 round kicking it out and up.   little dremmel work and presto.... 250 rounds without cleaning and no jams.

The gun is sorta accurate... bout like a stock colt government.   Fun gun to play with and they are cheap.

Kewl!  Any pics of it?  Have you shot the .22 conversion for it?

I'm having my gunsmith build a .270 Win on a pre-64 Model 70 action.  I'm hoping it'll be done by Christmas.  Then I can take it javalina hunting (assuming I get drawn of course).

Chambered in Winchester 300 magnum cartridge, also available in 7.62x51.

If you play Ghost Recon the Free Libya mod includes it.

I was looking at Kimbers last week lazs.  Came damn close to buying one.  Entries are down to $599 and some of the better models are finally dipping below $1000.

yep... handling myv kimber eclipse custom and then the witness makes you wonder if the witness will hold up.   I hear they are fairly rugged tho.    The wWitness shoots groups about twice as large as the Kimber and is a "fat" gun compared to the Kimber which is 1911 slim...  After my .44's the Kimber seems petite and recoiless.

Haven't shot the conversion yet..  The guy I bought it from shot it and said it was trouble free and accurate.  If so... I might consider The 10mm conversion... sorta like  a 40 magnum... bout the power of a .357 mag with a 10-14 round clip.

I own an Tanfoglio as well.
The only problem that accured was that it would nt fire military ammo (surplus), because of a weak fireneedle spring. It clicked every second or third round. This is a standard mailfunction, commercial ammo is no problem as they are mainly boxer primed, but the berdan seams to need more power do get to discharge. Check it out.

My brother used to have a tangfolio witness in .40 S&W. He had feeding problems with it as well. I really liked it (when it worked) , but he traded it for a S&W .44.

I can see why you favour revolvers or "wheel guns". What with jamming and stovepiping - does a semi auto have any advantages over a wheel gun?

More rounds and looks better Beet1e..

And they don't jam unless you get a fawlty copy, use wrong ammo or don't maintain it properly.

My glock has never jammed and i have fired ALOT with it.
