Winchester Model 52 Target Rifle .22- Value?
« on: September 17, 2003, 03:34:58 PM »
Hi guys.

I have to sell a Win M52 Target Rifle for the widow of a very good friend.

I know the gun is valuable; last Gun Trader's Guide I have (21st Edition) shows this on ~$600.

This one has BOTH the original 5 shot magazine and a genuine Winchester 10 shot magazine. Has sights and scope blocks. It's in VERY GOOD condition. It doesn't have the "A" after the serial number, so it's not one of the real early ones. I believe it has the "heavy" barrel but I don't have a good picture of a standard to compare it to so I am not sure. Barrel end diameter is almost exactly that of a US dime coin though.. it's thick.

This gun is the one the guy wrote a book about called:

The Winchester Model 52: Perfection in Design
 Author:  Houze, Herbert G.

"Historical arms enthusiast Herbert Houze unravels the mysteries surrounding the development of what many consider to be the most perfect rifle ever made. "

Anyway, I've got to sell it for her; my gun safe is full.

Anyone got an idea of what these are currently going for?

You may try a Winchester 52 search here.  Looks like 600 is less than average.   http://www.gunsamerica.com/

I'm not sure how accurate or popular that site but it looks pretty good. I keep it book marked in hopes of finding some parts pop up on there for an old (early-mid 1800's) percussion rifle.

Nice gun.  The Model 54 is the precursor to the Model 70 which is known as the "Rifleman's Rifle".

I think I'm going to list it and the rest on gunsamerica.

There's this M52, a nice LC Smith 16ga, a Win 94 Golden Spike new in the box, a very nice Mossberg 1000 20ga Youth and a Remington Sportsman 58 12ga that is clearly used.

Thanks!
