I worked one (International Bottled Water Association) alone with a severe sinus infection. Cough and sneeze into one hand and shake hands with the other. Would have blown it off but we had paid $10,000 to exhibit and there was no backup. Being so run down I picked up mono in the process. What a misery. Took the redeye back and it was delayed two hours because the plane's air conditioning was on the blink.

Went to San Antonio 3 times one year working shows. It's a nice place to work a show, but...

Attended a tech conference in Dallas and got overbooked at the Wyndham (apparently a common practice) Ended up at a Red Roof Inn without conference transportation and hour cab delays. The transvestite desk clerk, hard stains on the rug, railroad crossing outside the window requiring frequent whistle blasts through the night and working girls leaving at the crack of dawn were amusing however.

Going to the National Association of Convienience Stores in a month. Everything there from Corndogs to Larry Flynt to what I'll be checking out - motor fuels equipment  and technologies. Still a drag, but not a total boring suckfest lke the rest are.

God, I hate shows, I have worked a bunch.  The worst were when I worked for a concrete block manufacturer.  We would bring in 6-10 pallets(that is 18,000-30,000 pounds) of material to build the booth. 10x20 of concrete pavers with walls and planters built over that, with a grand or so worth of plants.  I designed them and built them and usually won best of show.   My unofficial job the whole show would be to give the damn thing away so we didn't have to haul it out.  I could usually do it too, Thank Cod.

The worst one was also the first one that I worked.  Brand new on the job, about a week.  My company didn't have a booth, one of our vendors did.  My boss, however, was friends with the salesman that was supposed to work the booth, so he made ME work it all weekend while he and his Buddy went out and partied.  Talk about clueless-I didn't know the product or even what I was supposed to do, really, so I got drunk myself and stood there passing out this guys cards, writing his home phone number on the back, the salamander.

:rofl   I hear ya Charon.. Thank god I'm a Factory Distrubtor level..  If I had to go around and do these all the time I would scream.  At the moment I'm here at FRA(Florida Rest. Asso.)  I just got back a week ago from NAFEM.  I'm really tired of looking at Food equipment!

I had to do LinuxWorld in NY last winter. What a nightmare. Was there 4 days before it started. I had to setup the servers & storage arrays, then setup the small business Oracle RAC with infrastructure. All that with the damn loading dock doors open in the middle of winter. The damn convention center didn't turn on the heat until the day before the convention.
Then I had to sit on some stupid technical panel and discuss HP's position on Linux and Open source solutions. Off the top of my head mind you, then field questions from the audience. Had to do that every day of the convention. What an introduction to public speaking, like showing up to the Towering Inferno on your first call as a fireman.
