And extra vertex shader effects and some other stuff I don't understand if you have a geforce 4, like me.

p3 900 with gforce2. Okay 2000 technology. The whine-o's should be ashamed of themselves for crying about new requirements.

not necasarrily mato...those are the minimum "clean" specs...you ccan probably go with the 800mhz if you get a nice graphics card...

Few tips on upgrading your computer.

1. Buy something that will last awhile, even if it does cost a little extra.

2. Don't buy from high street stores, buy from places that are basicaly a warehouse with a sales desk. And buy OEM parts, you don't need a bloody box.

3. Learn to install the upgrades yourself, its quite easy and you can save alot in the long run.

4. Don't forget to discharge yourself by touching something that is grounded, most places don't refund/replace hardware due to stupidity.

That is all.

Ok, not all.  If you have an 800mhz CPU a Geforce3 or better (or ATI equivilent) should get you by.

Personally I am probably going to replace my GeForce4 4600 with an Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb card, but that is driven more by HL2 (I want those DX9 effects) than AH2.

For those on a restrictive budget who just need a good computer and dont want to hand build their own, there is no beating the Emachines $399 el-cheapo (I prefer the T2341).  You get a damned fast computer that only needs a $100 graphics card to scream (which you may already have in your current puter).  It also helps to upgrade the ram a tad as the 128 it comes with is a bit anemic...but that can be done for under $50.

So worst case scenario, you spend $550 and get a machine that while isnt the fastest on the planet...will run circles around an old ~1 gHz machine.  Now I know that $550 is a whole lot of money to some folks, but for most it is a doable thing, especially if you are motivated.

You can build a cheaper puter, but for those less adept, you cant beat the emachine with a stick......just remember, its got a pretty small power supply...so dont try and stick 3 hard drives on it....you PS wont last long if you do:D
