Next Friday SquadOp: Bomber Wars
Frame 1: October 3The German Afrika Korps under Feld Marshall Rommel are desperate to take Cairo and in so doing end the North African war in their favour. They and the British forces have been battering each other for over a year and now the British have been forced up against the Egyptian border, with the prize, Cairo, only a few hours away. Unfortunately, for the Germans, British Field Marshal Montgomery has amassed men, tanks, and aircraft in abundance to fight the expected onslaught at El Alamein.
The German tank forces are depleted; the Luftwaffe must first crush the British aerial resistance before they can tackle the ground forces and their fortifications. They have amassed bombers and fighters and have scraped together enough fuel for two days of full-out operation. They must not fail or North Africa will remain British.
Frame 1 is in the North African desert. The LW is ordered to reduce the British forward bases and bomb Cairo into submission. Armed with an armada of Ju-88s and Bf-109Fs and MC-202s they will be arrayed against an equally motley crew of British Hurricane IIs, some Spitfire Vs and South African P-40Es.
Come one, come all, sign up your squadron.
