Don't believe this is possible, but interesting. What's the longest you've gone without sleep? 72 hours for me.

"Another project that takes its cue from animals is a fatigue prevention program that allows soldiers to operate effectively for seven days without sleep. To keep soldiers in action, DARPA is also developing pain management techniques that do not incapacitate soldiers the way that drugs like morphine do."

I used to drive 18 Wheelers OTR. Up 72 hours was a walk in the park.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

72 hours is easy and ive done more or less than that several times, mostly during  training and maneuvers.

During hellweek...was actually just 6 1/2 days I think we got 10 hours total nap time, takes a few days to go back to normal rythm again. You run a real risk of suffering from hypothermia and making fatal errors.

I did 48 hrs on many occasions, rotating shifts. 72 hrs is my absolute limit, at that point I'm hallucinating. I can't imagine staying awake for a week.

Well, even a nap of an  hour or two makes a big difference and can refresh you a lot.   I can get by on 4 hours a day and did so most of the time for years. If ya napped even an hour it doesn't count as staying awake, it does make a difference.

With the assistance of Jolt cola 50 some odd hours.  Though now for last 6 onth working double staggered shifts, so I get 4-6 hours in 2-3 at a time segments. Main reason I let my supscription lapse.

I did 120 hours (5 days) with about 5 hours sleep total. That was when I was 17, we (air cadets) were providing the enemy for a war exercise with territorials (same as your national guard).

At the end of it I was hallucinating, sleeping standing up etc, it was becoming very hard to distinguish reality from dream.

Oh, and no shower, and stuff all washing. I got hosed down on the back lawn when I got home :D

There are techniques one can use to stay awake longer than needed.  If you "time" your naps just right, you can supposedly function normally with only 1-2 hours of sleep a day.

A friend of a friend is trying this.  I havent heard or read enough about it to understand fully the technique.  Although while training for this new technique, it's supposed to be hell in the 2-3 week time before the habit forms.  I'll try to find more info and link it.

I could go 4 days or so in my 20's.  my longest single shift of work (actual physical work, not inluding the longer shifts I worked where I took a security job for a couple months) is 36 hours.

when I worked the ship yards I worked 11 weeks of at least 12 hours a day and 2-4 18 hour days per week.  no more than 4 hours a night of sleep during that and usually somewhere between 0-3.

about the time I turned 35 I just couldn't do it anymore.  in my 20's I could go to sleep at midnight, wake up at 2:30, then drive 4 1/2 hours, pass an x-ray welding test then work 12 hours.  no way I could do that now.
